    eerrrmehgerd.

    161,000 xp

XP cap is removeable and there are threads which can assist you in this if it is your desire. Whatever you desire.

I think at this point it may be a good idea to make a stickied thread titled "THE EXPERIENCE CAP IS 161000", and then within provide a link to some progression charts so people can see what level that corresponds to for different classes.

Either that or fix the search feature so that it can actually find things and put it near the top of the page so people know its there.

But there are already so many announcement threads though. When I first load up the general forum that is all I can see as threads in the forum. :)

@elminster yeah no kidding. But you know that you can dismiss them so they're no longer stuck to the top right? Personally I got rid of all but about a half dozen.

@TJ_Hooker I guess I'd seen the gear button on threads before, but instinctually I'd not tried pressing them. There seem to be some that you can't do this to though.

I don't know why people want to remove the XP cap, it makes the game far to easy and no fun

@Oxford_Guy (Oh sure, like HE went to Oxford)

I'm removed the XP cap because I'm doing my first attempt at a solo. I can't imagine what the endgame would be like caped @ 161k xp and too much of a kitten to find out.

Prepare to be bored out of your skull. The level cap is all that makes it interesting.

Is it possible to set the XP cap to a new value? If I try to make a solo monk run I would like to reach level 9 but not advanced anymore. I think for monks level 9 would be reasonable because this is the level where monk's fist count as a +1 weapon. I know it is easy, just remove cap and never level up after level 9 but then you will be bothered with the level up text and sound every time.

    @Vuki

There is an editor called Near Infinity which, I think, will allow you to edit these values.
I am not in any way experienced or knowlageabledableist with it. Use caution.

Thanks. Is it compotible with EE?

I am curently doing my solo assassin run and for that I do not need this feature but I will try it after I finish it.

I used it to remove the XP cap (I think).

From what I understand removing the cap involves editing 3 values, each in a diffrent file.

I then did a test on this by adding 500k XP via CLUAConsole and the correct vaule showed in charname. However,I did not level up to verify if the correct class statistics were achieved.

    So a tentative yes.

Maybe they should trash most of the announcements and put their key points into one single "readme -callouts about the game" sticky. Good coms management.

I removed the cap successfully using Infinity Explorer initially but then set it to 2.8mil because beyond that point characters can get into HLA territory and BG:EE doesn't fully support HLA's yet which makes leveling impossible once you reach that point.

Obviously you'd never get that high through normal game play but I tested it just to see what could be done. And of course people who solo could end up needing to know details like that. Also of note is that most high level spells DO work... however at least two do not work properly and those are Limited Wish, and Wish. While these spells do summon Djinn, there no dialogue for them so they grant no wishes making the spells useless currently.

I figure removing the xp cap or raising it might be satisfying for someone running through multiple times with same guy for whatever their reasons. I may hold out on it for now. I just finished Durlag's Tower and had to revive imoen and branwen about 3 times and khalid twice. Annoying but doable. Anything beyond 12 is overkill If I remember correctly.

Can someone give a link to how I can do it?

@Necroblivion @Vuki removing/altering the XP cap involves editing three .2da files (STARTARE.2DA, STARTBP.2DA, and XPCAP.2DA). search for "NearInfinity" on google and you should find it w/in the top two or three results, it is a downloadable .jar file that will allow you to edit these files, it has a fairly easy to understand interface, just guide it to your BG:EE "chitin.key" file upon setup (you'll find it in your BGEE/0766 folder I believe). Removing the cap simply requires changing all XP limit values to "-1", or you can change them to another desired value.

If you don't want to/can't do it yourself, I'll refer you to this thread, where @mlnevese has been kind enough to upload the properly edited files offsite (XP cap removed completely). All you need to do is download them and place them in your "Override" folder. If that hasn't been created yet, you'll need to create it in your "00766" folder. So the full path should be, for example:

    "C:\Games\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766\Override"

The edited .2da files should be directly inside the "Override" folder. So, in the case that the download is an override folder itself (with the .2da files inside; which I think might be the case), you wouldn't need to create a new one, but rather just transfer the downloaded "Override" folder (after unzipping if necessary) to "00766"

Note: If you use those files or completely remove the cap yourself, keep in mind that high level abilities aren't fully implemented into BGEE and so you may run into problems related to this at high enough levels. The thread I linked above contains information regarding this as well.

Just to further explain what you're changing and why the values are different, "STARTBP" refers to the Black Pits XP caps, which are different than those of the main campaign. The Black Pits XP caps are set up to allow advancement to a specific level across all classes, whereas the main campaign has an XP cap of 161,000 XP regardless of class.

I've played through BG1 via BGT many times with solo characters, and in my experience, there is a sort of "softcap" for levels. You just aren't going to get much further than 12-14, depending on class, without doing some serious repetitive respawn grinding. There is only a finite amount of content in the game, and most of it doesn't reward a lot of exp (since it's primarily a low-level campaign).

That being said, I always remove the level cap in any game that will let me. I don't usually do any level-grinding these days (got over that in my Everquest phase) and I feel I am entitled to enjoy the benefits of any exp I earn through legitimate play. Capping advancement has always seemed like "fake difficulty" to me, anyway. If I want to out-level a boss and WTFPWN him, it's my right!
