We need a thief NPC in BG2:EE!

There should be more thieves in the City of Thieves.
Personally I would like to see an Assassin evil elf girl in BG2:EE :-)

Short version:

They mentioned in the AMAA they were adding a female single classed thief in BG2EE. Now let me go see if I can find said quote in the AMAA.

Or rather I should but its like 4:30 am. Long story short, yes they plan on adding one. My bet is that it'll probably be a new thief and likely romancable but that's mere speculation and no fact.

Maybe they are going to add Black Lily the storekeeper from the Thieves Guild in BG1 as a playable NPC in BG2:EE? :-)

I'm super excited for this!
OK, Questions:
There are new classes, correct? Can you say anything more about them?
Can you please add a real thief that doesn't die in BG2EE?
How sick would it be if BG3 followed your original character after he/she ascended into god-mode and it took place in a Planescape type setting with other gods and demons and stuff?
2 and 3 aren't real questions, but whatever...

Hi!
It's been made mention of, we're adding a Blackguard kit. A Blackguard is like an evil Paladin. OverhaulKeith had a succinct run-down of the class aspects below. Also, if you've only played Baldur's Gate 1, then all the classes and class kits from Baldur's Gate 2 will be available for use in the Baldur's Gate 1 story.
We're told that there's not nearly enough evil thieves in Baldur's Gate 2. We'll try and address that in BG2:EE ;)
There's a few different directions a potential BG3 could take - that's something that's on the table. I believe Phillip Daigle posted a poll-that-has-absolutely-no-bearing-on-reality with regards to that question on our forums, somewhere there.
@Nathan or @TrentOster might be able to provide more information but that's unlikely. They have bugs to squash atm.

Sorry my information was slightly off at the start. The predictions are that it will be a pure thief since the rest of the evil NPCs in BG2 are all pure classes.

Also summoning @Quartz just for fun

@Dragonspear has their stuff correct.

I think it was Trent who said later somewhere in the AMAA that they would add a new thief and something along the lines of, "And she should be fun, not annoying." Notice 'she.'

I think BG2:EE needs a mage as well.. I personally despise Edwin and his snarky attitude
• DragonspearDragonspear Member Posts: 1,838
I remember something similar @Quartz, but navigating the 1100 comments in that reddit thread is a nightmare that even Ctrl+F can't solve beyond what I've done.

I personally really like Edwin.... however, he doesn't really fit into Good parties... They certainly need a single class mage that'll fit in with a Paladin charname... And I mean besides Neera.

@Elendar

I wouldn't exactly expect that. Nalia is pretty close to a single class mage (dualing at 4 doesn't give her much utility). On top of Imoen and then the multi-classed annoying godcaster known as Aerie, I doubt good will see any more mages =( Honestly any new NPCs they add (other than Rasaad, Neera and Dorn which are confirmed) I figure will probably be Evil.

There are only 4 evil NPCs in BG2EE (Korgan, Viconia, Edwin, Dorn) and only 5 in ToB
Sarevok
Just throwing numbers off the top of my head, Good NPCs = 9, Neutral NPCs = 8
7 After Yoshimo bites the bullet
My numbers on Good and Evil NPCs are close I believe but I don't remember exactly atm.

I think thief would be cool, but she needs to be evil. There are currently only 3 evil npc's in SoA (4 with Dorn and 5 with Sarevok but he is only available for ToB) which sucks :/ With her and Dorn you could at least actually finally make a full evil party!

Edit: Just read that reddit thing and they specifically mention that it's an evil thief. YAY!

Nalia and Imoen don't fit beside a Paladin?
• DragonspearDragonspear Member Posts: 1,838
I dunno, I'm playing a lawful good mage playthrough atm and my theory is that they can't go around randomly stealing, but I'm not so lawful good that I don't think they're useful for detecting traps in dungeons and unlocking doors or chests in those dungeons.

also:
Your paladin has to side either with the Shadow Thieves guild or with a Coven of Vampires which also doubles as a thieves guild and you're complaining about running with Imoen or Nalia?
There's a mod that adds a 3rd option to that dilemma.

Also, I'd love if they just finished Yoshimo's questline, or at minimum at least slapped a line in there to get him back in the party, even if they don't add the rest of it. Doubtful, since I think that would probably be one of the things they can't touch, but damn it, it annoys me that it was left unfinished

you were supposed to have the option at the priest to attempt to bring him back which led into a questline on behalf of Illmater to break Geas on his soul so he could be resurrected and aid the party defeat Irenicus to redeem his honor)

Funny how so many people want Skie or Alora to return... while we know that can't be done

I REALLY hope you're not talking about Saerileth...

Anyway, about the question: Jan is all I'll ever need.

Bring back Skie! Although a more psychotic version, still reeling from Eldoth's obvious mistreatment of her.

"Do you like my perfume?" She'd say, before she sinks the blade into the peasant's gullet.

I want MONTARON, and I want him romanceable for the girls. There's enough female partners in BG2 already.

other than Rasaad, Neera and Dorn which are confirmed

I wonder if they re-do their BG1:EE portraits and make them more BG2 stylish...

I'm a big fan of Skie and Alora. Alora might be a bit over the top since we have Mazzy filling the quota of a upbeat halfing.

But Skie would be wonderful. Either a more confident Skie, that has run away from home on her own accord and not because some bard told her to. Or a Skie who has been swindled of a priceless family heirloom by Eldoth, so she's taken it upon herself to retrieve it back. Partly to get back at Eldoth but mainly to avoid shaming the Silvershield name and having to answer to her father.

Her questline would take her across Arm tracking Eldoth's movements and later whoever he sells the heirloom to in the Trademeet. There could even be a little Garrick reunion, although trusting him he probably doesn't even remember her.

Why not? Nalia is a spell-casting noble that can open locks in dungeons and Imoen is a childhood friend who (judging by her crappy skill point allocation) isn't much of a thief at all and a fledgling mage. From the character's perspective, unless it a zealous anti-magic Inquisitor paladin, either one fits in nicely.

Anyway, pure thief please. I don't think it should have to be human or elf though; I'd rather have a conceptually cool character than one that's crowbarred in to fill various quotas. I'd just as soon welcome a Gnome/Dwarf/Halfling thief as a Human/Elf one.

You know, I was just imagining how awesome a dual-classed illusionist/thief would be to play, ducking in and out of invisibility to really illustrate the combat backstabbing thief motif. I know that "Jan Jansen at your service!" was essentially the same thing but he just didn't give off that MAGICDEATH vibe that ever saw me using tactics like that with him.

I imagine a dualled Kensai/Thief would also be proficient at slaughter, 5x max damage backstabs, maybe throw in some one handed style for some double the critical threat love and to accentuate the point that this one stab matters. Wouldn't be half terrible in melee after the pain train arrives either. You'd think the AC should be poor but in truth, with two points in one handed style and the kensai base +2 bonus, it's the equivalent of a thief wearing studded leather +1 with AC 6, and that's just for showing up with a weapon. 18 dex? AC 2. +2 ring? AC 0. Cloak of Bal-OKAYWEGETIT.

Also, Kensai + Use Any Item = WEAR ALL OF THE THINGS |o/

So yeah, if thief, I hope there's some stabbyback love, either in the form of recurring invisibility or some physical presence on the field. Because now fighters can hit a 5 APR "unbuffed" with Belm or Kundane and that rogue'll really need to justify their place beyond plinking away on my backline.

I don't *need* a thief in BG2...since I am one. But would never complain about there being more of them. Though if they brought one back, my vote is for Safana.

Yeah, if Jan wasn't intimidating, you weren't doing it right. He can hit 128+ BS's the moment you recruit him.

I almost posted a really long comment basically explaining exactly what you said. Thank you for understanding!!! I was hoping this poll would have an Other or a No option (I would have voted Other and specified Yoshimo!!)

There should be a barbarian companion for thief players, and a thief companion for barbarian players. These two characters should be able to laugh in the face of all content, and once they put the finger-waggling Bhaalspawn nonsense behind them they should be able to trot off to Neverwinter and/or Waterdeep and/or Luskan and/or Icewind Dale and have many adventures.
