Importing BG:EE character to standard BG2?

First of all, I am deeply sorry if this topic is already here somewhere, a cursory search did not allow me to find any mentions of it.

To the main question then. Is it possible to continue my adventure with character created in Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition in ye olde Balrdur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, or am I in need of waiting till the day comes that Enhanced Edition of the sequel is aviable for purchase?

Thanks in advance for any (possibly helpful) answers.

I haven't tested it, but in theory so long as all equipment your character is holding exists in BG2 there shouldn't be any untoward conflicts going on; there's far more difference between the original BG1 system and BG2 than there is between EE and BG2.

Yes, it seems to work. (I've only tested a 1st level character imported into BG2, but given that there were no conflicts, I don't foresee a problem.)

Well, the only "problem" would be that if you played with the new NPCs, and plan on playing with them, maybe completing a romance with them, then you will be unable to do that in vanila BG2 (naturally...)

It works just fine. Just dont bring a Blackguard or any of the new items unless you know they exist in BG2.
  • Thanks, that makes me even more pumped up to finally replay Baldur's Gate (vie Enhanced Edition), since it's been ages from my last run through it.

I know, a thread rez. But can you import a BG2 character to BG:EE?

A level 9+ character in BGEE, what would be the point of that?

Honestly didn't mean BG2. Oopsies. I meant a lvl 8-10 character from BGtutu.

I have plenty of tutu characters. I want to import a few for multiplayer purposes.

It'll probably work. The proficiencies will be screwed up if you chose the BG1 proficiency system for your tutu install.

I didn't. Just used whatever tutu gave me. Only mods I use in tutu is SCS and NPC. I hope it works. Just want to rush them to key parts of the game and hit 'Save'. Like right after the Maze in BG, and at the entrance of Durlag's Tower to go through with other people, or some irl friends that have the game already.

It'll work as long as your CHARNAME isn't any of the new kits.

Has anyone tested bringing in EE items? Im curious if it would work the reason being is, in Baldurs Gate II if you import a BG1 char and use the pause during black screen/drop items then pick up after opening sequence trick, Items in BG1 which were not in BG2 did transfer over, the TotSC items transfered over they simply lacked having a description. Also another interesting thing is if you bring the two handed sword+3 with you it was transformed into Harbringer interestingly.

I think EE items are removed if you try to import into BG2. Haven't seen any other comparability issues.

I doubt the EE items would work.

The BG1 items probably worked because BG2 was built upon BG1's engine, therefore all the items present in BG1 probably exist in some form in BG2.

But EE is something else entirely, so those items wouldn't be present in any form at all in BG2 (unless those items originally came from BG2 in the first place).

@DetroitRedWings25 EE specific items would not work as there's no .itm file or description in the .tlk file for them.

Mind you, you could use NI to export those items, then put them in the override folder of your BG2 install.

by the way, you can import up to lvl40 characters back into BG:EE or at least Black Pits and you can use all the spells too (or at least just the divine, since i only tested a cleric)

I've noticed that with an imported character my special abilities do not work. They work for other characters in my party, and they work when I create a new character, but do not work on my imported character.

The abilities are there, they just don't do anything when you click on them. It's a pain when trying to get back to my pocket plane in ToB.

    Hey guys!
I apologise for the nooby question but how would I go about importing my final game character after defeating Sarevok into the standard BG2? I recently purchased BG2 from gog because I was too attached to the story to wait for BG2:EE-- but I don't know how to export/import saves as I've never done anything like this before.

Could someone please tell me in simple steps how to do it?
Thanks a lot for your time!

@Korendil you goto the "baldur's gate - enhanced edition" folder in your documents folder, there you'll need to goto the save folders, take the save you wish to import from, copy it into the save folder in the baldur's gate 2 folder (since it's from GOG, it's prolly C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Baldur's Gate II), then when creating a character, choose import and select save game and then the save.

Though you might want to make sure it's a class kit BG2 will reconize if you want to import it as BG2 did not have Blackguard, Dragon Disciple, Dark Moon/Sun Soul Monk, Shadowdancer or Dwarven Defender.
