Phandalyn the Paladin *Spoiler*

I'm just curious if there is any way around the whopping 9 point reputation loss for killing Phandalyn in baldurs gate?

basically he's a Paladin that will attack you on site if he detects any evil members in your party

he must be one of the only guys who initiates a fight and causes such drastic rep loss

You could beat him unconscious with your party's fists of fury, then leave and make a map note to never go back inside.

Drop evil party member(s) for a little bit?

    "Don't be evil"

Good job Sir Phandalyn for doing your (literally) god-given job.

Invisibility 10 radius any help if your mage can cast it? And if your rogue has has high charisma/ hide in shadows + move silently put her for part time party leader and let her do the talking in Phandalyn's vicinity, so you can cloak away if needed.

Edit: Another idea to use Polymorph Other spell, if you find it or massive use of Contagion.

Either don't enter the building, or don't kill him. Instead, charm, or hold person him. Wands of polymorphing can be effective too. Toss a doom spell and/or Greater Malison to debuff his holy good paladin saving throws and let the magic work.

He only checks the characters who are IN the bar, so send in a non-evil character by him/herself. Phandalyn will "clear" the party member(s) and leave. At that point it's safe to bring in your evil characters.

I have Viconia in my party as the only evil character, this is the method I used. It doesn't really matter though, there's nothing interesting in that tavern.

Southwest Baldur's Gate, the house furthest to the left. Here's a map: http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursgate/walkthrough/baldursgatesouthwestern.php

Just kill him if you're running an evil party (in BG EE the peasants don't turn hostile anymore inside the bar, when you attack back Phandalyn). I only lost 2 points of rep when i killed him (maybe because my rep points where 5 at that time XD!).

Killing someone just for being 'evil' is pretty damned intolerant... Shouldn't paladins hunt people doing, you know, 'evil stuff'? I hit Rep 20 before Cloakwood. The worst thing poor Anadriel ever did was hoik a rock at Noober (instead of putting an arrow through his neck).

Yeah, there was a big thing about this in the 2nd Edition The Complete Paladin's Handbook, that more or less said "Instigating fights with people just because they read as 'bad person' on your Holydar is a bad idea.". I'm pretty sure "it'll make you look crazy and it'll make people more fearful of your order than anything" was in there, it's been a while. Well, that, and evil is everywhere, and a paladin needs to know when to act, and when not to. Phanny was being a bully.

Nice job breaking it, Phandalyn. And, err, nice job, Shar-Teel!
