I'd definitely say better - as pointed out not least because it shows they're listening to feedback and acting on it without a bunch of administrative delays - but still has some way to go.
The main problem is obviously in the sequence being stylized and cut in length to where it doesn't have time to contain the same kind of build-up. It could use another 20 seconds - not every frame has to be action-packed.
@Shin: I'm not sure your reasoning is valid. WHY they changed the intro really doesn't have any bearing on HOW they changed the intro.
It's like Mass Effect 3. Does anyone with half a brain applaud Bioware "listening to the fans" by expanding on the game's ending when the expansion failed to address any of the main flaws of the games narrative and when the additional fourth ending was a -literal- "fuck you" to the fans?
When discussing whether or not the new intro is better or worse than the old intro, the only--only--thing that's relevant is the quality of the movie (in both incarnations) itself.
@Arsene_Lupin Fair enough, I certainly agree with the ME3 turnout. In this case though, I think the addition of that sound clip does leave the intro movie in a better state than without it, though like I said that certainly doesn't mean it couldn't use more work still.
...Which means that you regard both intros as being of utterly equal quality, which is something of an impossibility given that they are, you know, not identical.
I think it's slightly less jarring but still unsatisfying. I don't quite understand what the problem is in in allowing enough time for the victim to speak his full line "No, wait, there are others--I can show you!" at a normal rate of speed, so that everything reads correctly. I think they're trying to ram a square peg into a round hole here. Make the hole square.
Don't really care at the moment since none of the movies play correctly and I have to skip them all. Hopefully they fix the player and movies at the same time.
I didn't think the line was half as bad as this thread made it seem. It felt to me like he was saying it really fast in order to try and preserve his life. (He failed, needless to say).
I do not like the intro or scene change movies at all. Apparently, the originals looked awful on high res, which I can believe, but I'd rather suffer pixellation than the solution.
I don't really like any of the movies. Like... Friendly Arm Inn. What was the point in shortening that musical sequence? It sounds weird now for old fans. I just replaced all the movies with that mod. They be much better.
The only one I dislike is the Bandit Camp one. I think the others are much better. I personally thought the old movies were utterly terrible, so I'm having a hard time understanding people who prefer them. Oh well, to each their own.
Yeah, I would say that @modestvolta has it much better. That's pretty good.
So we can just stick that in the "movies" folder in place of the original? (Properly named as "bgenter.wbm" which means renaming the original and storing it somewhere else.)
the intro and black pits movies are a bit different, since they feature spoken dialog. you'll find them in "\Baldur's Gate EE\Data\00766\lang\en_US\movies" rather than the traditional "..\00766\movies" folder. It already has the correct name "intro.wbm", and yes, I renamed the BD original as intro.wbm.bak.
