I remember the very first attempt at BG I had was with my family. We were playing as a paladin. We bought him a 2 handed sword using most of our money. It broke fighting rats...
I'm hoping for the sake of those who do every trick in the book to get that katana from Winthrop that BG:EE does some magic other than just checking the breakable flag to see if a weapon is breakable.
Because every katana, ninjatō, and wakizashi in BG:EE has the breakable flag set, including the enchanted ones.
(Even if BG:EE uses some magic other than the breakable flag BG1 used, they should still set and clear that flag as appropriate for peace of mind for those of us rummaging through the game data. Harumph!)
That said, anyone had a katana (or ninjatō or wakizashi) break in BG:EE?
And yeah, weapons break a lot more than I remembered them in BG1 all those years ago.
I had the opposite experience, I had to haul a lot of long swords and two handed swords around with me in vanilla BG1 since they were breaking all the time, while I only had one weapon break in my first EE play through, Minsc's starter sword. Maybe I just got lucky in that game, I had previously assumed that they tweaked the weapon breaking mechanic so that weapons broke less frequently.

Katana break? Heart break!
And he's certainly not going to share maces with Viconia. He's just ducky with 2 handers.
This did not bode well for the rest of my adventure. I don't think that one made it.
Two-Handed swords break. This means...
You need to tell Minsc to use Two-Handed swords as dart weapons!
"But Medulla, Minsc doesn't have prof in darts!"
Nonsense! A drunken night at a tavern will fix that! :P
