[BG2] [Spoilers] how do strongholds work for dual- or multi-class characters?

Hey all,

I've only played the original BG1/2 once, as a paladin. Now that BGEE is out and BG2EE is coming, I'll play through them again (already bought BGEE, but waiting until BG2EE to start playing so I can do both games uninterrupted). So, a question about the strongholds you get in BG2 - how do they work for dual-class or multi-class main characters? Specifically:

As a multi-classed character (say, F/T), would I get full access to both strongholds (in the case of F/T, the de'Arnise castle and the thieves guild in Docks district)? For a triple-classed F/M/T, would I get those two plus the Planar Sphere?

What about a dual-classed human? Say I start as a fighter, then dual to cleric at some level. I assume I could get the cleric stronghold as that's now my class, assuming I started that quest after dual-classing. Is it still possible to get the fighter stronghold as well? Does it depend on whether I do the fighter stronghold quest before or after dual-classing? Would it work if I do the fighter stronghold quest after dual-classing and after the cleric level is higher than the fighter level, so fighter becomes active again? What about doing the fighter stronghold quest after dual-classing, but before fighter class becomes active again? What if I start the cleric stronghold quest as a fighter, but then dual-class to cleric before turning it in?

Any insight would be great, thanks

Without cheating you are supposed to get only one stronghold, as accepting a stronghold should prevent you from getting a second one. However, in vanilla BG2 there were exploits that would allow in some cases to get more than one.

I believe you can only pick a stronghold if you are multiclass. Dual class get the second classes stronghold I think.

I know that you recieve the stronghold of your current class.

What interests me more is getting a stronghold if you dual class (ie. thief>mage). What I would like to know is what would happen if I as a thief did the thief stronghold quest, was handed the stronghold, and then dualled to a mage. Can I get a mage stronghold? I suppose no. But does the answer change if thieving skills has not become active yet? I suppose no.

If I as a thief did the thief stronghold quest, didn't take the stronghold, dualled to a mage, did the mage stronghold quest can I get the latter? I suppose yes.

Or if I as a mage (dualled from a thief) did both the thief and mage stronghold quests can I choose what stronghold to get if thieving skills become active again? I suppose yes. Can I get both these strongholds? I suppose no.

    These exploits are closed.

Active or no, a dual-class is treated like a multi-class character. You'll get offered every appropriate stronghold; once you accept you won't be offered another.
