My one request would be, for bg1 and 2 : Allow polygamy
Now! where is that disagree button?? lol but really if you want something like that you have always DA2 with that pirate chick, she seems into alot of "modern" stuff.
@NeoDragon I agree but my critic was not directed at any of the BGs.

Hmmm, maybe I phrased that wrong. What I meant is that I want to be able to date viconia, aerie and jaheria without being forced to chose between them. So maybe cheating on them i guess

Although I am not in favor of polygamy in general, it would add some interest in the relationships of the party.... Maybe the girls won't like it and leave or even turn against you... You should take some extra care when forming a party Or when you make out with one of them...
But i would like to see a proposed benefit (for the player) for doing something like that, otherwise it looks like an "easter egg" kind of thing....
ps.1: The same stuff should work for female protagonists too... ps.2: or protagonists who like the same gender.... ps.3: I'm getting confused... It starts looking like soap...
@pathfindingAlgorithm Heres what I think about that. You talk about gay possibilities, sure why not, thing is each npc has it's own personality, they are not there to serve no ones interests but their own. It depends on their personality, if s/he even considers gay relations, poligamy, etc Lets face it, usually there are not many people who accept those things easily. It all depends on the writers but they shouldnt have to "fan service" everyone, -all that the devs have to do is portrait the world as they see best- It's their game not ours. What we can do is blame them when they do a severe mistake (ex:me3 ending)
There are already conflits within the party, but the more the best. What I do not agree is with what you said about benefits... Talking to your party is important for the information and lore not for points or benefits (as in DAO)
One of the resasons I want this is because I like making all my party members like me, and I want to explore all thier dialouge options and do thier side quests etc. Most characters have a certain amount of time and lines of dialouge devoted to them, and often a romance take up quite a lot of that. This means that without exploring a romance with a character, that character can seem a bit one dimensional/content light in comparison to others. This basically means that I have to pick only one possible character of all the ones with romances to have in my party, otherwise thet are only there for thier stats, and I might as well make my own characters for that.
The concurrent romances mod for bg2 is the sort of thing I was referring to.

Actually I Agree... Lore and information count for "benefits"... I pretty much used the wrong word...
ps.: Gender comments (male/female/homosexual) were added for completeness and to avoid potential confrontation on the subject... so i guess i failed..
There are definite fixes that would help the current system. For example, having a party member die and the be resurrected can permanently stop your relationship path which the game doesn't tell you at any point. I'm not sure if this is fixed in a patch.
I'm aware that the current status of any relationship is indicated by a global variable you can check or set via the console. It would be useful if you could initiate a dialogue with your party members and have an appropriate brief greeting indicating what stage your relationship (or the global variable) was at. This would give you an ingame way to see if the relationship was ongoing but wouldn't just break it down to "I'm at +75 affection (adore)". Dragon age had similar dialogues, where the initial greeting of the conversation indicated the stage of your relationship.
I appreciate that the romances & relationships aren't for everyone, and often they'll just be interpreted as "I shagged Aerie, hur hur". They do however add to the richness and complexity of the game, as has already been said, and feel like a natural part of the progression in exploring the motivations and backstories of the NPCs involved. I don't always go for them, but sometimes it's good to try something different like redeeming Viconia. The game would be poorer if you couldn't.
I also always felt that the BG2 relations were more involving than the DAO ones. They were buggy at first, true, but once that got fixed up (Jaheira especially) and you could play through them it was quite satisfying.
In general, I think having romances happen based on conversation choices and in-game events is a much better option than having an affection meter you need to fill up. Ideally, I would like to see the romances made more complex though, with more and longer conversation options.
What DAO did well was that you could be the one to initiate contact with your romantic interest, which takes a mod to do in BG2, and even then it's a bit limited - so that would be nice to see in the EE as well.
I think this should be let alone, I felt that BG was the time for learning about yourself, the horrors of the world you had be shielded from, learning secrets about yourself you never could even dream of, trying to avenge the man you considered your father, and learning about a dark haunting world you had been bought into, the fact, you, are a bhaalspawn. I feel strongly that BG1 is not the time for romance, it's the time for questions, answers, learning about who you truly are and finding how you, as a character, deal with these changes.
I think in BG2, it is more acceptable because you know you're a Bhaalspawn, you understand how the world looks at you differently, and how to deal with it, and at this time it's time to fall in love - (with any modded romance, because Anomen can go suck an egg)
As has been hinted at, there never really was a "romance system" in BG2, just a cobbled-together convention of timers and variables that sometimes, mostly, kinda worked. Infinity's DLG structure is hideous and frankly it's amazing that original developers, let alone modders, were able to get the "right" dialogue to start at the "right" time at all. (Note that it took the collective efforts of the modding community over three years to comprehend the insidious state trigger list and build a tool that could deal with all its nuances.)
The way Jaheira's extensive personal quest and romance are closely integrated was extremely ambitious... it was a shame how buggy her scripting was, but in retrospect, not terribly shocking.
