Will Irenicus kill my familiar.

I've grown rather fond of my little kitty companion. (If I were to ask for a feature request it would be go give my cat a name - so the dialogue says more than 'cat - backstab 6 damage).
Since familiars weren't in the original BG1 there was never any import issues about taking it with you into BG2.
I was just wondering if Irenicus will throw the charred corpse of kitty at my feet, probably turned inside out as well. Or will I find him meowing in a cage somewhere in the dungeon.

You'll have the spell in your spellbook, but will have to resummon.

Actually I don't have the spell. Since you can only cast it once I used the scroll from Nimbul. :(

He doesn't kill it, but it disappears...aka, yay, you keep your bonus hp and no longer have to sacrifice a inventory slot for it...not mention, their effective power has dropped dramatically as most enemies will one shot them if you attempt to use a familiar in combat in BG2.

Not to mention all of the AOEs that happen in BG2.

The feature to give names to familiars is an awesome request though. :-) Have you officially made a feature request for that?

Yes, Irenicus will kill your kitty. He will then proceed to feed its charred remains to Minsc and Jaheira while forcing you to watch, all the while cackling maniacally and saying "Do you see?" over and over.

I kind of doubt that the devs would forget to make provisions for export of familiars. I expect that when BG2:EE comes around they will make sure the familiar stays with you.

I first misread the subject Will Irenicus kill my family? :)
  • Maybe he'll just shove it behind that picture with the Golden Pantaloons.

My Dust Mephit was probably hiding in the Pantaloons, which would explain it if that happened. It seems like the kinda thing he'd do.

I was thinking it might try to hide in one of the cloning vats with the other Ellisemes. Then some 'The Fly' type genetic crossbreed would emerge.
