Hmm. Currently playing core rules. Certainly I can see a lot more heart ache available from insane. Ill think about it.
I have never played a no-reload/hardcore run in BG, but I know the feeling of losing a character in other cRPGs. (Off topic: Angband comes to mind. It's a great feeling playing with the same character for weeks or even months only to be one shot dead by an enemy you didn't even see.)
@Wowo, huh? How could you get a berserker 6/druid 10 with only 186,000 xp to work with? Did you remove the xp cap? If you cheated, then of course Sarevok and Co. were easy to beat.
He means Berserker 6/Druid 9. You can actually do Berserker 7/Druid 9 as well if you want. Pretty insane dual-classing stuff. Personally I opt to do Kensai 7/Druid 9 myself, I feel like it actually role-plays out very well (being naked and all). Berserker Druid is just a power-build lol it makes no sense at all.

I like the idea. Wrath of Nature and all. Barbarian/Druid would be more natural, but unfortunately that isn't available.

I'm pretty sure I know what I mean and I mean 6/10. How hard is it to look up some xp progression charts before sticking your foot in your mouth?
Level 12: 300k total XP Level 13: 750k total XP Level 14: 1.5 mil total XP Level 15: 3 mil total XP Level 16: 3.15 mil total XP
To go from 12->13 you have to more than double the total xp you've gotten so far. To go from 13->14 you have to double the total xp you've gotten so far. To go from 14-15 you have to double the total xp you've gotten so far.
They have very quick xp progression at first. Level 10 is only 125k XP, which is why you can make a 6 Fighter / 10 Druid in BG1. Then their xp progression swings the other way, and it really hits you at those levels.
So I finally got the 91 points that I needed as a minimum for my cleric/illusionist (18/18/16/19/17/3) though this misses some saves but I got sick of rerolling.
Stoned in basilisk area after prot pet ran out. Ahh well was fun for a while, really powerful build.
Latest run was with a swashbuckler to be dueled to fighter at 5 or 6 for GM in bow as an archer. I figure with swashbuckler att/dam bonus (is it +1 or +2 at level 6?) and GM that this will be a better archer than the archer kit, at least in BG1.
Not sure how to develop this character though: 165 points to distribute: No pick pockets as plan on Eldoth (to churn out arrows for me). No hide/ms as no backstabbing. So I'm thinking 100 detect traps and 95 set traps?
Weapon proficiencies ... I'm thinking quarter staff would be best secondary weapon and can manage at games end to have: Bow ***** Quarter staff ** Style *
With 1 point left over for ... Something? Currently figure dart to have an early ranged option which won't be completely useless later as there's some good utility darts though maybe dagger or shortbow would be better?
Is longbow actually the best ranged weapon in BG:EE or would I be better off with something else like crossbow (army scythe), throwing dagger, sling, dart or what have you?
The first incarnation of that archer got killed by an ankheg outside Nashkel Mine.
Ouch. I didn't remember you could run into an ankheg there. Nice to know
Yeah just to the west of the side exit which is the normal way to get off that map safely iirc. I've gone for *** in staff this time which means no ranged proficiency until I dual class ...
So flesh golem in pirate cave got me. Anyone know their THACO? Even with -11 AC he still smashed Kagain on a 17. Managed such accomplishments as the horror on the dig site with just Kagain tanking. Ahh well.
It helps that there is a potion of absorption in the pool in the flesh golem cave. So if I don't have one I run past the golems, grab the potion, drink it, and they go down fairly easily.
I mean you could technically get unlucky if they roll a 20.
Well, it is official now. As of yesterday I finished Baldur's Gate for the first time. Now I just need to figure out what I want to play as next. I think I'll try out Black Pits first though so I can see a certain NPC in action.

Grats!
Black Pits is pretty entertaining though the villain complaining of your metagaming is peculiar.
For my second play through I settled on a theme. The theme that survived long enough in the end was "shorties".

The final cutscene with Savorok death is still the best ever made
IMO

32,000+125,000=157,000. The xp cap is 161,000.
For Druids:
Level 12: 300k total XP
Level 13: 750k total XP
Level 14: 1.5 mil total XP
Level 15: 3 mil total XP
Level 16: 3.15 mil total XP

According to the charts at http://playithardcore.com/pihwiki/index.php?title=Baldur's_Gate:_Progression_Charts#Druids I haven't played one in BG2.
You're right that does suck.
I have never played with a pure druid (only with Jaheira) and haven't really paid attention to that.

Any suggestions of where else to get an identify scroll as HH is empty now?
Did you drink a potion of absorption before you fought them? That gives another -10AC vs blunt.
