Additional spells

I personally think dimension door would be a wonderful addition to the spells repertory:

Adding more gimmick-like spells could lead to more profound, strategic approaches.
Spells like flaying would also be of use, with casting time of 1 it is quite versatile, but not actually that good it would throw the game off balance. (also it is not aoe, Zakeros)

Any similar ideas? Other spells or spell-like abilities you would like see appearing in EE, perhaps tattoo of power?

If only we were able to have Jon Irenicus's spellpower... there wouldn't be any other Lord of Murder candidates.

I hope they do add something new, especially for the Druid.

@Maciak87 What could a Druid possibly need besides Insect Plague and Summon Fire Elemental (oh, and maybe Call Lightning)? ;)

On a serious note, I'm not sure more spells are really all that necessary, although there is a cool mod out there ("Spell Revisions" if you feel like looking it up) that attempts to balance all the spells in the BG games, and adds some new spells if I'm not mistaken. I suppose it could be a nice addition if done appropriately.

The main problem with changing things that potentially involve limiting adherence to the D&D system (as in, making up new, original, spells) is balance. Balancing every aspect of a game takes a great deal of testing, which is why we'll often find that games based on D&D will often suffer when they deviate from it. Also, things that go beyond the bounds of the system will often upset fans of the original game and of D&D, although this is definitely secondary to the balance concerns in my book.

I want 8th 9th level spells for druids and clerics for second game.
They cannot be overpowered as Horrid Witting, Wail of Banshee or Black Sword.

Even if BG1 druids have a few of the level 4-5 druid spells used in BG2, I'll be happy. I once levelled Faldorn up until she could cast level 5 magic, and then wallbanged my mouse when I saw that there were only two spells. :/

hehe... if I read that correctly you (as well as myself) have used more mice then computers? ;)

"Teleport Portal" spell which can be summoned by “Weave Spell” ability in Wild Mage Additions mentioned here.
Like the 4th level spell Dimension Door, this spell opens a dimensional portal. This spell affects the whole party, though. Willingly or not, every member of the caster's party is dragged into a dimensional portal and transported to a place [on a current map] chosen by the caster.

    Me want this one :)

The more they can add spells, the better. If they can add hundreds of new spells, and an Archmage class. That would be epic. I'll buy the game three times for that.

The necromancer spell set would be nice.

@fredamora You just made the LE wizard in me squeee a little bit. While I won't hold my breath for an Archmage class... it's tempting to debate selling my soul for one.

I recently looked through the complete book of Necromancers, I also jotted down everything I thought would be viable for BGEE and also, some crazy kits that could be achieved if the skill bar (thievery skills, spells, turn undead) were moddable. I believe there was an awesome rogue-esq undead slayer. Alas, I am on holiday so I can not get my notes on them, I will update in time I am sure.

I have the complete Magic User's Spellbooks and the same with the complete Cleric's spellbooks. I'd like to see special spells based on who the cleric worships, especially if they bring on specialty priests. Lathander being God of the Spring and Dawn has special spells, like "Rosemantle" that make the character glow softly, and grants the effects of a Ring of Free Action for as long as the spell lasts. Or my favorite goddess, Selune (goddess of the moon), having a third level spell called "Moonblade" that brings into being a blade made of moonlight that does 2d12+4 damage per hit to undead and 1d12+4 to anyone else, plus, creatures hit by the blade are unable to use magic or spell-like abilities for 1 combat round (6 seconds) after being hit by it. The god/dess one worships in the game should be more than just a name. There should be real benefits to what and whom you worship.

    1) Lance of Disruption, yes please! What a fantastic/awesome spell (not for use in cities!)
    2) Vitriolic Sphere
    3) Shroud of Flames

Um.. Those are just some fun, classic spells that I would enjoy seeing used (by or against my party!). Aside from these, I'm sure there are others that I've forgotten or would love to see, but it's not an essential inclusion to the BG series. BG already hosts a tonne of spells; there's not much need for them to saturate the spellbooks with unnecessary inclusions that add little to the game except evidence of addition.

Wild magic is seriously missing in BG 2. I'd really like to see more wild magic spells.

Fire shuriken, from Oriental Adventures- Level one spell, scalable that does 1d8 per hit, you get an extra shuriken every 5 levels or so, and confuses/blinds the target for a few rounds...

@LadyRhian ...or the cleric spell "Shield of Lathander" from IWD, which makes you immune to damage for a period of time.
