    Demon Knight in Durlag Tower. Only first encounter with the demon.

    Greater Malison and then Wand of Paralyzation works well (he teleports away if you don't disable him quickly).

    You can also set around 10 skull traps before talking to Ike.

    To elaborate on what was already said, the first encounter with the Demon Knight in Durlag's Tower happens on Ike's tour. And to get Ike's tour you have to talk with him in Ulgoth's Beard.

    On a side note, this might mean that since the Demon Knight is originally chaotic evil, wearing that helmet on the first encounter makes him lawful good. :)

    Who's to say he wasn't lawful good in the first place??? (Insert dramatic revelation noises here)

    If you put this on someone with Chaotic Neutral alignment, do they become Lawful Neutral? If you put it on someone who is True Neutral, do they stay the same?

    If you put it on a true neutral party member, all of the sudden they start giving a @#@& about the world around them.

    @Oxford_Guy

    Chaotic Neutral becomes Lawful Neutral.

    True Neutral stays the same.

    99% sure. I'll test that later and edit this.

    Edit: Lawful Neutral CHARNAME changes to Chaotic Neutral.

    True Netural Jaheira "changes" to True Neutral.

    So yeah it swaps Chaotic with Lawful and vice versa, Good with Evil and vice versa, and True and Neutral stay the same.

    The helm also doesn't seem to make Rangers or Paladins fallen so, if you want to have a Chaotic Evil Paladin... you kind of can.

    Also, on a side note, the Demon Knight will still show up at the bottom of Durlag's Tower even if you kill him during your first encounter.

    @TJ_Hooker I was literally about to ask about that. I am wondering though if you get experience for killing him the first time...?

    @Xavoria: I killed him earlier today for the helm and got no XP. I don't know if that is standard, however, as it is the first time I have done it.

    If a wizard was chaotic good and cast a find familiar spell and got a lovely fairy dragon, could he put on the helmet and cast the spell again and get an imp?

    @Xavioria

    15k if you kill him at the top, 15k if you kill him at the bottom. And you can do it both times for 30k.

    @Eudaemonium

    Just saw your post. I'm wondering if you got glitched because I KNOW I killed him on the top floor a few weeks ago and got xp. I'm going to try this later to see if I still get xp.

    Edit:
    You are right, it didn't give me xp. I'm either dreaming or something changed, honestly the first one is pretty likely.

    Still going to add this to a bug report just incase.

    @Anduin

    You can't recast the spell. I suspect that if you wore the helm on a Fighter / Mage BEFORE you cast the spell the first time. The resulting familiar would be based off your new helmet changed alignment. I'm guessing this because equipment restrictions are effected by the helmet.

    For example my evil Fighter / Mage was able to wield Drizits scimitar Twinkle (Good Only) and wear the Robe of the Evil Arch Magi (Evil Only) by putting on the robe, then the helmet of opposite alignement, then Twinkle.

    That know-it-all Near Infinity says that.

    @moopy: I just killed him today and got no XP.

    If you put this on an evil NPC, will they still leave your party when you hit 19 rep?
  • moopymoopy Member Posts: 938
    @Sirk8

    No, I had an all good party that I wanted Dorn in because I haddn't used him yet.

    Got him the helm of opposite alignment, raised the parties reputation to 20, and he stayed no problems.

    From a role playing perspective I see it as CHARAME tricking Dorn into wearing the helm.

    @moopy - thanks! in one of my games, Dorn is the only Evil NPC I have, mostly so I can see his content, but actually I'm getting attached. If I can get this I won't have to keep managing my reputation!

    @SirK8

    Lower resistances with Greater Malison and Doom and then hit him with a wand of paralzation.

    Edit: I normally run with 3 arcane casters so I have one arcane caster hit him with Malison and some type of Cleric hit him with doom, and the second they both hit I have the other two mages that haven't used their turn yet ready, each of them with a wand of paralzation.

    Today I finished Durlag's Tower and fought Aec'Letec for the first time ever. I never did either back in the day. Aet'Letec was nasty because he kept doing that weird Death Gaze move. I eventually did it by spamming Wands of Fireball at the start to take out most of the host cultists. Then he silenced everyone so I had Dorn distract him while my Bard, Xzar (Cleric), Viconia and Shar-Teel (Thief) mopped up the stragglers. Finally Shar quaffed an invisibility potion and backstabbed him for massive damage.

    Yeah, it wasn't a very sophisticated strategy, but I'm not that great at the game.

    Note; Dorn will stay in your party with the helm equipped but if removed from the party u need to lower your rep down from 20 to recruit him again even with helm equipped. Behaves as if neutral good again after recruiting

    From what I remember you do not get XP when you kill him the first time, but you do get XP the second time around.

    Maybe I made up the fact that it gave up xp then.

    That would make sense from a realistic standpoint, because however it happened, you didn't "technically" kill him I guess, since he appears later.

    Yeah, I think as far as the game is concerned, you're not really meant to be able to kill him there. I actually managed to kill him before he could kill anyone with fireballs, and then tried talking to the tour guide and got a "[tourguide's name] has nothing to say to you." I find that when you get a line like that, it's often the result of a situation that it seems the devs didn't really intend or plan for. Although they obviously were aware of the possibility that munchkins would manage to kill him, seeing as how they stuck an easter egg item on him.

    Still having trouble locating the helm. I fished durlags tower, killed the demon knight (mainly with archers firing to break up his spell casting) but didnt seem to get the helm. I have now gone to Ulgoths Beard, gone on Ikes tour, but he ends up giving me a wardstone for the lower levels. If i try and talk to him he says "too busy to talk to you".

    The helm only drops if you kill the knight when he shows up *at the start of the tower*, when Ike gives you the wardstone and he spawns in and fireballs everyone to death. My guess is because you already completed the tower it bugged out.

    Huh, I though you had to go on the tour to even get access to the lower levels in the first place.
