BG EE / Worth it

NimasuNimasu Member Posts: 10
Hello

I`ve played BG1-2 many times. I own retail disc`s and gog versions of both games. I knew BG EE was coming and released but didnt want another DD service so I just held off on it.

BG EE showed up on steam 2 days ago, I bought it.

This is clearly BG EE, The colours, Menus, Sharpness of the graphics and the awesome zoom wheel feature. The most obvious is the sound quality, Crystal clear audio, I love it.

I`ve just started playing it, I can see and hear the improvements that justify my $20, I`m very happy with it. I`m really looking forward to BG 2 EE.

Don`t let the haters get to you, Great job.

PS. If you guy`s or Atari could get the steam version up to date, I`d love you even more.

Edit-Could someone comment on save game compatibility? If I continue with my steam ver 2010. Will the save be work properly with the 2012 update?

The Baldurs gate Series is the greatest saga gameing has ever known, the enhanced edition took this work of art and greatly improved it allowing me to play as my favorite race (half-orc) in baldurs gate for a change, very deep new NPC's and it runs on my Windows 7 flawlessly baldurs gate enhanced edition was worth every single penny I spent and I personally wouldve spent a new retail price of 60$ on it, The continued support from overhaul is something a lot of developers could learn a thing or two from!

    I completely agree with you.

Yes, i doubt Atari would hold back on patches, so eventually you should get them as well.

Be aware that anything going through Steam has to go through a huge certification and checking process. It's expensive for the game company, as well as time-consuming, and is one of the main reasons why smaller development companies prefer to avoid Steam if they can.

Steam patches will thus take quite some time longer to release.

I'm thrilled at the ongoing support for this game, which is probably the biggest reason why it's worth $20 in my book. The fact that we recently received new content out of the blue for no additional charge (as well as a slew of bugfixes etc.) was fantastic!

Untrue. There are lots of indie games on steam. Like Hotline Miami that was developed essentially by 2 guys who said they were broke?

And I tell you, releasing on Steam is much better than other route: retail where retailer much larger cut than steam and they mainly want big franchise and sequels not some small indie games since they cannot predict sale figures as easily.

    http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/06/paradox-sales-are-90-digital-we-don’t-really-need-retailers-any-more-says-ceo/

According to Wikipedia, Steam gives 70% to publisher/developer in contrast to 25% for retail. The reason to avoid Steam? Want all the money for themselves or want to push their own gaming platform (like EA Origin).

For witcher 2, enhanced edition patch (which was several gigabytes in size) cam out almost at the same time across the platform.

I like BGEE enough to buy full price, but there are many more who are not satisfied with the purchase. And considering the size of steam community and out community, it is probably sad but there might be more people who don't like them EE than us.

@Nimasu first comment, and you already got a "promote". Nice! I bet 99.9% of us won't ever get to have that.;p

I would've paid a lot more than $20 if need be. I can't wait to see what they do with BG2 or better yet if they actually make BG3.

BG:ee biggest problem is that vanilla bg has less bugs and more content, with mods. And deciding not to release the game on Steam prevented lots of hype-sales. They really should have made bg1 a steam game, and bg2 beamdog exclusive, depending on the success.

And imho, Beamdog should work more closely with popular mod makers. Teaming up with bgfixpack and tobex was the right idea. Getting DavidW to port SCS sooner would negate much of the bad forum talk, and provide a reason to switch.

@Nimasu Yes the savegames will be compatible. If you have any item that was changed in later patches, though, the scroll case, for instance, that had its capacity increased, you'll still have the old version in your inventory, as the game will use the version present in your save, not the new default in the game.

The same applies to any bugged quest you may have already played. If the quest didn't give you XP, for instance, you'll not receive it if already completed.

Your savegames will also work in the IPad version, as well as OSX and Android when those are released.

Eventually there'll be cloud sync so that you can go on playing in whatever platform you own without moving savegames around manually.
