Its been many years, but reading this brought back some good ole memories. I was not clueless to AD&D, having spent plenty of time playing the Gold Box games. I made a druid, happily ran all the errands in Candlekeep, set off my journey, then everything went south. After the initial encounter, and Imoen coming to keep me company, I set off exploring the area. On the map near Chase, there was this big fat fluffy brown bear. I had skimmed through the manual, and remembered reading that any hostiles would be indicated by a red marker. Mr. bear was not red, and I assumed that since I was a druid, Mr. bear was of course my friend. Surely I could recruit his help while in the area. I mean, this was interactive real time AD&D and state of the art graphics, not a text based dungeon crawler! So I went to talk to Mr. bear, and just as quickly turned into chunks after one loud growl and a good slap. The initial shock of this had me staring at the monitor with an open mouth, until I heard Noo! I....! And realized Imoen was also no more. I made a figher, restarted, and went back but never saw Mr. bear in that area again. I played through so many more times I can't count, added TotSC, all those runs and never had Mr. bear in that area! Some 15 years later, having bought BG:EE, I found Mr. bear in that same exact spot on my first playthrough and really wish I could have a bearskin cloak from his big fat fluffy brown hide. 15% cold resistance while wearing the big fat fluffy brown cloak would be nice too. ;) On a random note, does anyone remember the screen of a computer desk with a keyboard and monitor and Black Isle Soda that would pop up if you forgot to put the CD in?

The first time I played BG when it first came out, I never sold anything and kept hoarding every single thing I found in chests in Beregost. I thought all the gems and swords and everything might come in handy later or be needed eventually. I must have spent an extra year in game time getting through the damn thing. Finally when a friend pointed out how ridiculous that was, I made a killing all at once with several trips to the store. It was absurd, I was seriously storing everything from plain arrows to those charcoal things from the mines and every single book in the game. I thought that ever single item that could be picked up would need to be used again in the game or maybe in subsequent games.

Even when I started selling all the items, I would sell every single thing I found, even if I had to run back to the store and come back to the battle scene. Imagine my laughter when I started BG2 and discovered none of it mattered... what a waste of time. now I don't even pick up items to sell unless they're magical.

When starting a recent BG1 game I decided to have my backstabbing FMT specialise in spears with the brilliant long-term plan to grab the Impaler in Sahuagin City for some really awesome backstabs...

I think I did something similar, but luckily I think I realized my mistake before I got out of the planning phase.

Killed a Watcher in Candlekeep with a Bounty Hunter snare. Yeah sure was easy XP... but hit 4 rep... then hired Viconia... half a lvl 1 party, 2 rep and Flaming Fist spawning every time I entered a civilized area.

That... that was a restart there.

I didn't pay too much attention, and things were going rather well anyway, so I was well past the Nashkel mines before a voice at the back of my head said "Hello-oo!" I had a good laugh at myself and clicked on ShadowKeeper. To my defense I had just listened to the third act of Götterdämmerung in which Hagen backstabs Siegfried with a spear (yes, that's a good excuse, I blame Wagner)...

Blaming Wagner is always a good route to take.

If all else fails, play the Hitler card on him!

I *still* have a tendency to do that. After all, who cares if you can root the enemies to the ground, if you can also deep fry them?

Oh! I'm sorry sir - but I have to admit - Aerie was my best party member - always!

Reminds me of the time I fireballed some enemies in Sendai's enclave while the Deva I had summoned was engaging them in melee.

Turned out the Deva didn't appreciate being fireballed. In fact, it turned on me. So besides the enemies I also had to combat my own Deva... Facepalm @ self!

This would be a nice moment to have a wild mage in the party opening a gate with a wild surge :)

@mlnevese - Especially if nobody in the party had any Protection from Evil spells left. :-D
