When I look at the files there are six different files. For installation on a vanilla version 1.23, it appears that two of them are not to be used (they say ONLY for use with prior versions - compmonai1.11.zip and compmonai1.4.zip) while another appears to be an integration piece with another mod and so also shouldn't be used (MergedUI.zip).
Am I correct that installing the haksource2.2.zip is correct?
If so, do I also install the compmonai2.2.zip and erfsource2.2.zip?
@AHF I can't help you with that, sorry. You might have to call on @Archaos for that. As cool and interesting as it may be, I didn't install Tony K's AI mod for it seems like something that can break mod compatibility.
@Archaos - Thanks for the great list! A second question (in addition to my previous post), this time on the item changer. I see two mods that might be what you are talking about. Are either of these the correct one?
@Illustair - Thanks for the list. I downloaded the wicked magic combo pack.
In terms of compatibility, I plan to post the list of mods I am considering before I install any of them to get the $.02 of the experienced guys on this thread. That way, I won't have to stumble into any known compatability issues (hopefully). Thanks!
(For context, I am planning to run this solo with the OC and expansion packs.)
@AHF You only download "compmonai2.2.zip" I think and just drop it in the override folder. That's the 294.05Kb one. If you download Tchos UI, be sure to download the Tony K's compatibility patch and remove the old file it overrides.
And I mean the second one, Charlie's Item Appearance Changer. It has even it's own UI icon and makes the menu pop up and you can customize your items for free. Keep in mind that it duplicates items some times and removes them later so don't worry if you have two copies of the same item for a few moments.
And about compatibility, there's no installing process like Weidu for example. You just make a folder and drop the mod there in the Override folder. If you see stuff that conflict, then you remove the mods and find out the culprit. You cannot mess up your game like BG mods.
By the way, I don't think Tony K's mod conflicts with anything. Or if it does, I didn't notice it. And one option autocasts buff spells on casters when they are spawn or notice you. Sequencer anyone?
I did not try the wicked magic combo pack so I cannot say anything about it but Tony K's and K's mods are my first two must haves.
And you mean run the mod solo? Sure, experiment. Or go to the Uninvited Guests demo module that comes with the game and give your self levels with the console and see how things work.
(Click the ~ button to bring the console up and then the commands are "debugmode 1", "givexp xxxxx" and "debugmode 0" to disable it.)
The gamestop deal listed earlier on this thread includes both NWN1 and NWN2 and all expansions for both games for $7.50. When I installed they had the same "protections" as the original games (i.e., codes for entering to show it was a valid purchase) but the gamestop installer seems to have automatically entered the codes so I just archived them for reference should I ever need them in the future. It was pretty much DRM free to my view. FYI - the gamestop installer only shows 2 expansions for each game but I confirmed with their support that all expansions are included and after installing NWN2 all 3 expansions were available.
@AHF - do you know if the gamestop version has any other restriction, like can I download as often as I like to as many PCs as I like? Do I have to be connected to the internet at all to play? That deal sounds really good, and even though I already have NWN1 on GOG, I would take that deal, since it is still less than the GOG deal. But if there are *any* restrictions like having to authenticate to install, no multiple downloads, etc. I would pay the extra to get it from GOG.
@SirK8 and @Illustair, "Re-download your games again and again" it says on GameSpots app on my computer, so yes, we should be able to have the game(s) on multiple computers. On authentication on install I don't know; at least I didn't notice anything. There was a one-time password (sent to my mail), but I think that was on download.
@SirK8@swnmcmlxi The NwN games never had such stupid DRM except the premium modules of NwN1. *rolls eyes* Even loading a game is a pain in the ass, since it checks it then too. Or at least, it takes five times as much time to load it.
I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to put that kind of DRM on GoG or the Gamestop deal. Especially on a game that didn't sell amazingly well and fills a niche market.
Well, it looks like Gamestops deal is over, when I visit the link it says $30 for NWN+NWN2+all XPacks. Looks like if I do buy it it will be GOG since I already own NWN

Glad I pulled the trigger, but sorry you missed out!
@AHF - yeah it's ok, I'm still not 100% sure on my purchase. A while back I purchased a bunch of D&D games from GOG and still have not played IWD or IWD2, ToEE or PS:T so I've got plenty to keep me busy. That's assuming I get bored with BG:EE before BG2:EE comes out. I played and LOVED the original NWN (not so much the OC, but custom mods and MP) and it's expansions. I even bought the premium modules back in the day and liked those. So one day I may give NWN2 a shot, but it may not be for a while.
I haven't played ToEE, but I would recommend going with PS:T next if you want a mentally interesting and story driven game. It is very creative and would be my top choice for you, but if you are there for the battles it isn't the way to go. IWD is like BG-lite for me with no NPC interaction but it is very similar to BG/BG2 for battles.

kingmaker auto loads the first time you startup NwN1 and wraith shows under modules in NWN2. Took me just under and hour through GS to get both games and the expansions downloaded and installed.

glad i bought it the other day when i posted it here. they must have just raised the price since it was still showing the 7.50 deal yesterday. Wonder if they saw people buying it so decided to jack the price back up?

That sucks. I was hoping to buy it next week...since I don't have Mysteries of Westgate. Oh well, I might as well wait for the enhanced editions.:-) Hopefully, it'd just be a 2-4 years wait.
well I played NWN when it first came out and found it fun much more so than the IWD set of games. The pw's were not as much fun though. I was use to MMO's from EQ and I know I unfairly compared them to EQ and they idea behind them was more to put a pnp game onto pc's for people to play with their DM
Restore MotB Menu Screens. It replaces the main menu image and music with that of MotB instead of SoZ. It's more relaxing to me and less bombastic when you want to create a character. http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2UI.Detail&id=121
If you like sounds or main menu images from other games, click on the author's name and you can customize it.
@Archaos - Thanks! I also downloaded a "no effects" mod so I wouldn't have to see my spellcasters as gray, etc. the whole time they have stoneskin or a similar effect active.

It had potential, I got used to the camera, and while the characters aren't all that memorable I enjoyed the level of interaction available. But NWN2 just wasted my time far too often.
I stopped playing around favor #587 for the guard to get into that rich district and actually advanced the plot. The story was going nowhere slowly, so very slowly. You should never have to invest hours into a game before it gets good.
I kind of think the exact opposite. While both have a lot of drag, it isn't 2/3 of the game. I mean I love BG but the wilderness Areas are so insanely boring.
the trees in nwn2 just suck. Speedtrees can be so pretty but they managed to make the ugliness perfect. That was a real acomplishment when you know with what they had to start with...
And that straight big treebeam that just stops somewhere beneath the sky is the most ridiculous thing ever! haha now i got the whole picture back in my mind and it´s really like a straight line with a bark texture... lol
The botton line : NWN2 is different from BG. Not just 2d and 3d but contents itself too. For me BG seems more paper and pen dice rolling classic dungeons and dragons game. If you've played fallout 1 and 3 then you can see what I am trying to say, I suppose.

I can think only of BG2 and The Witcher 2 on that level.
If you have a slow computer, you might want to try NwN1 first. And by slow computer I mean older than a 2005, which is unlikely.
You could get and try both at GOG for around 25$, which is not much at all. And they include EVERYTHING. All expansions and premium modules (I think).
I would say try NwN2 first. The campaigns are better, absolutely.

By the way, here's some more mods that are purely cosmetic but nice to have.
Lamu's custom UI Sound Effects. It replaces some of the game sounds and especially the "clunk" sound it makes when you click on the menus or levelling up.

Background Art. It replaces the background image on level up with some custom paintings. I love the blue one, very relaxing.
