Fallout's Travel Mode in BGEE

Possibly a worthwhile enhancement to bg1's travel mode would be to adopt Fallout's. I always thought it more fun to watch your party (or character) walk along on the world map, his trail marked as he goes, discovering new places as the fog of war clears. Originally it feels like you may be missing something that your character/party may have seen or stumbled upon while traveling because it is instant travel with mostly no delays or encounters. Adding in the travel mode of Fallout could make even traveling a fun and interesting part of the game, allowing you to stumble upon situations, friendly and hostile, rewarding or penalizing according to the roll of the dice.

The negative side I see to this is that sometimes you may want to travel somewhere quickly without disturbance. I know that sometimes Fallout had this feature too hyped up and I couldn't walk more than a half day without encountering enemies or travelers that would wast time. That may it a bad thing.. I'm sure a happy medium could be found.

What say ye?

The only hitch is that in Fallout no one knew what the outside world looked like because they were locked up in a vault for a century. As a plot device then, using fog of war on the map makes sense. In BG the character grows up in the preeminent library of the realms, which is most likely stuffed with maps. So the road and towns are all well known to all characters. It's only some quest locations that are a mystery and must be discovered.

I like the idea of more random encounters in BG, that would be cool.

    Totally agree !

Some really rare or Q giving encounters is what BG:EE need.

There is already a thread requesting a greater variety of random travel encounters. As for this idea, I think it would be a useful addition. Firstly it would help facilitate encounters, and secondly it would show the travel path, occasionally in the game, the party takes a very roundabout route to reach certain destinations. The condition I would attach to that is that the way new areas are revealed remains as is (i.e. you can't travel freely into the map). Instead, rather than just appearing at the destination you click on, a line shows you moving along. That also helps by making ambushes less jaring.

Maybe too big a change at this late stage though.
