elven or half-elven Fighter/Thief dual-wielding swords human Berserker 3/Thief dual-wielding maces
Given that there is only one really good mace, I wouldn't want it to be the only weapon prof on a dual wielder.
Longswords or Daggers would be a better choice.
For an elf, I would go longsword/single weapon style/bow.
Not to mention that a Thief can't backstab with a mace! I had a brain cramp there.
But yeah, Longswords and daggers would be fine.
Longsword, katanas, scimitars, wakizashis, ninjatos, shortswords, daggers, clubs... at the end of the day it won't matter all that much. I guess when dual-wielding the fastest weapon is the one that delivers the backstab, so that's probably the most important choice.

Yes it would make more sense to choose a weapon that can backstab (or backbash) to major in for a thief type altho you could minor in mace and put Stupifier in the off hand.
Thanks everyone. Apart from Viconia not wanting to join me because I'm too edgy for her (HMPH!), it's been pretty fun!
It looks like I've got CHARNAME (Elf Fighter/Thief -- longswords), Dorn (love!), Kagain (with gloves), Montaron, Xzar, and Edwin. I'll dual-class Xzar to Cleric at Necro6 to get around the Viconia issue; seems like it's probably a better fit, anyway. :]
Any thoughts on whether I should replace Montaron with anyone (Shar-Teel? Baeloth?)? I really just have him sitting around with a sling, which feels a little silly.
Monty makes a fine frontliner. If you have the thief stuff covered with charname, there's no reason to not send him into melee if you don't find him useful with the sling. Shar-Teel would pose exactly the same situation - she'd be a good frontliner or ranged fighter (depending on your/her level, you can throw her a ranged pip if needed) or dualed to thief. Monty has better con, same dex and lower str. It comes out as the same. Baeloth would likely be more useful - if anything, he can identify. He also has the same natural magic resistance as Viconia, which can come in very handy. If you feel experimental, take Eldoth as support caster and to identify. He's a very medicore NPC, but with Dorn in your party, you'll get the armor for bards (don't ask) and make use of all bard abilities. I often take him along because I like bards - and he doesn't care at all if you ever do his quest, so you don't need to break up the pair. Just don't collect his partner. Mostly, I have him learn spells Edwin can't learn and otherwise fill in as whatever is needed in the situation. Or just make him invisible and let him sing.
