Is BG 2 EE out? And several other newbie questions

Hello. New here. I found out that there was an enhanced version of BG a few days ago.

I see the BG EE version came out several mothns ago, and a BG 2 EE is being worked at. Is it known when it will be available? Which oeprating systems will it be for?

Regarding other questions, where can I buy BG EE apart from Steam? Is there any problems with the Windows version I should be aware of? Anything else of interest?

Thank you very much

By the way, by Windows I meant Windows 7 for PC, not for a tablet.

BG2EE is not out yet, but is currently being worked on and is expected to come out sometime this year

You can buy bgee directly from the store here: http://www.beamdog.com/products/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition

There have been some problems with compatability with the intel chipset, but I believe most of those have been resolved now.

Thank you. Are there any problems installing or playing it in Windows 7 (for PC), or playing with an NVidia card?

After a few bad experiences with other games I am a bit scared

Hmm... I'm not 100% certain, but one of the points of the EE was updated comparability with modern operating systems, wo unless they fell through on this you shouldn't have any more problems due to Windows 7 than you would on any other OS :P

I have both (Windows 7 and a NVidia graphics card) and BG:EE runs without any problems. You really don't need to be scared of this beautiful game! The developer's support is still ongoing and they deliver patches quite frequently to get out the last bugs remaining.

Not "the last bugs remaining", but the "many bugs remaining", please.

    It would be more appropriate.

PS : check the bugs section if you want to have the list of what still needs to be fixed.

Even the original game runs fine on Windows 7 aside from a minor graphical glitch with the fog of war edges.

    BGEE runs perfectly.

I have Windows 7 with an Nvidia card too. When I first bought the game it didn't even start. I sent an email to Beamdog customer support with as much detailed information on the problem as I could. After few days a patch was released that completely solved my problem.

For better support I would recommend avoiding the Steam version and buying directly from Beamdog, because the developers cannot patch directly the Steam version. Going through the proper channels requires some time, so Steam patches are usually provided with some delay.

Seriously? I didn't know it was this year, is there a post about this?

Mostly tweets, but you can also use this one:

The team has already started working on BG2EE for content and fixes, and we expect to release the game sometime in 2013.

I can't give you specific dates or quarters, because we won't know until it gets closer to "that time", but the amount of work involved in BG2EE is comparatively smaller than it was for BG1EE.

I don't know about this. They may have resolved most of the issues that rendered the game completely unplayable for some people, but the fundamental problem between OpenGL and intel chipsets remains. I'm guessing that results vary for different setups, but for me this means that even minor spell effects can cause a dip in framerate, and any major ones can almost stop the game altogether (lingering ones like stinking cloud pretty much means I'm playing at 5-10 fps for the duration of the spell, unless I move the camera somewhere else).

@TJ_Hooker The graphic engine is being rewritten and those problems should be solved when it's done. The same applies to the IPad slow downs with spells like entangle.

Yeah, I remember that being mentioned in another thread. That's awesome. And for the record, I wasn't trying to lay blame on Overhaul, as I heard their warnings about there being problems with intel chipsets prior to release, but chose to ignore them, as I had heard similar things about other games in the past that ended up working fine on my computer. So I'm just lying in the bed I made. I just mentioned the problems I had to show that it would be misleading to tell people that intel chipset issues are solved, at least for now.

Buying directly from beamdog means a bigger percentage of the money goes to the developers and it ensures that you will always have the latest update (Provided you download it :P). Steam may or may not be completely up to date in the future but atm they are a bit behind.

I run windows 7 and an Nvidia Graphics card on a laptop. I had a huge amount of trouble getting the game to work but since I went in and changed the graphic card setup so that it specifically runs the game I haven't had any problems. (For some weird reason the graphic card doesn't automatically run bg:ee on my laptop)
