There isn't really a better model to use in the game though. Medievil miners, even the well paid ones, wore very few clothes down the mines. So none of the commoner or PC models really work. As we know creating a brand new model isn't really an option.

In an ideal would, they should still be in loin cloths, but much stronger and healthier looking.

You mean it looks strange to have the miner paperdoll used on beggars in bg right? :p

The "paperdoll" is what you see in the inventory screen. "Animations" are what you see moving around.

And no, it suits them just fine. They're supposed to give an impression of poverty and raggedness. That's what they do.

Given that the mines are under management by a professional organisation, and that the miners are being paid and are not slaves do you think that is somewhat odd?

Paid 1 copper a day perhaps. Being paid doesn't make you free.

It is heavy and dirty work. Miners should be sweating a lot and getting earth and mud all over them. It's practical to be in rags, or a modest loincloth, which are cheap and disposable. Then when the work is done, a quick dip in the river to cleanse the most of the dirt and then wear their normal clothes to go home. If lucky a wife will have prepared a small tube filled with hot water and give the poor guy a back-scrub. :-)

New animations would be nice. With more clothes and new sounds also.

I don't mind the miners looking like beggars, however...!

The rich mansion in Nashkel that has a lady hiding her lover in the closet.... Why is he a beggar-model???? I get that he is undressed but cmon. A beggar.

That guy has that animation to show he is naked. Then again there are no naked animations for other character models, every model has some basic clothing always. You could run around naked in Arcanum game and gain a nasty reputation. In BG, mages always wear robes and then wear robes on top of their robes when you equip a robe. 'I heard you like robes so I will equip you a robe to put a robe on your robe.' :p

It would be awesome to get 2 or 3 or 63 new animations....

I took it as either they were practically slave labour or that the mines were far enough down to be hot.

There is a lava stream down there, the mines are undoubtably hot.

It would be good to see them spruced up a bit purely to give a contrast to the horrific forced labour in the cloakwood mines.

I voted 'no', since I imagine working down the mines for long hours is hot and tiring work, and it seemed feasible that the miners would have to strip down to pants/loincloths in order to withstand the conditions... still, part of me thought it would be good to see a new paperdoll for them.

Felt like bringing back up a few old threads into the fold :D

Personally I think that the look of miners is fine.

Maybe I am missing something... Aren't they desperate to recruit anyone to go down the mine. There are nasty yipping demons on a killing rampage... You would need to be pretty desperate to go down and work in those mines... i.e. penniless and desperate on the street.

Plus if you note, and this one is for the geeks, the body of Joseph (the one of the green ring fame) is dressed in a green tunic... i.e. a normal peasant, not a slave. This gives the added impression that things were better down there for the miners before the nasty yipping demons.

I always viewed it as a commentary--that the miners were working long hours in miserable conditions and still not getting paid enough to support themselves or their families.

In other words, they look like beggars because they might as well be living on the street.

    This.

Showing the miners as hardy, well-fed, union represented as they are today (at least in the US - perhaps not so much in the rest of the world), would undermine the point that the makers were trying to convey.
