(Spoilers) Can Edwin Learn Identify?

MelicampMelicamp Member Posts: 243
For the life of me, I don't remember. I'm planning on a party of
Baeloth
and Edwin as my casters. I know he can't cast divination but I don't recall if he can cast minor divination and just not major? If he can't, then I'm going to have to use Xzar as my identifier for awhile.

Edwin can't cast any divination at all.

That's why I never use Edwin aside from my forum avatar.

Interesting. One may think that if you have Edwin as your forum Avatar, that you like using him? lol.

Repressed desire theory explains it :)

I have him as avatar because I often play him in the RPG forum. I love his character, but he doesn't often fit in to my playstyle.

    There's talk of them lowering
    Baeloth's
spells per level (just talk) from what I understand. If they do (which I really think they shouldn't) I hope they don't drop identify! Then if you have he and Edwin as your casters, neither can identify anything! lol

Mr B is a bit overpowered, he dominated the chess match in Durlags tower all by himself in my play through with him. Do I think they should nerf him? Nope he's an easteregg bonus character, if people don't like him they can take one of the million other NPCs instead.

Yet another issue you never run into if Xzar is your cleric and has the useful divination spells - such as Identify - while healing, tanking and being crazy. :)

You have Xzar tank?...that is crazy

At a pinch, the stores in the Carnival are the cheapest places to pay to have things identified at, though they seem to not be able to identify some items

A cleric Xzar is a fairly effective tank, in my experience. I was surprised. (Though I usually have Kagain or another character to tank too).

Yes, Xzar can hold himself up well on the frontline. I don't have him as my only tank, but he is not worse than Branwen or Viconia. He's the best of both worlds - does better damage than Viconia, gets hit less than Branwen. Before regaining his mage levels, he's in ankheg shell with shield, after that, robe of evil arch magi, helm of the noble, ogre strength gloves, shield and he actually keeps up with Shar-Teel or Dorn.

What weapon do you usually have him with?

Usually I give him the Stupifier because no-one else uses it (by proficiency, it's Viconia's weapon and Xzar takes her place as healer). It also fits rp wise; Xzar makes enemies "more like him".
The second one depends; if Edwin uses darts, Xzar can have sling as backup. If Edwin needs the sling, Xzar takes Ashideena. I mostly use him in melee, so it's a bit a waste to give him the +3 sling. It's either the +1 THAC0 sling from Black Lily or a regular +1 sling.

That's why I'm playing a Berserker that will dual into a Cleric. Dual-Wielding Stupifier and Krotan's Skullcrusher is pretty fricking nasty. Especially when you hit "Enrage". Gonna try this one this go around

    Charname - Fighter (Berserker) / Cleric - Maces (dual-wield)
    Shar-Teel - Fighter - Longswords (dual-wield)
Kagain - Fighter - Axe / Magic Throwing Axe
    Dorn - Blackguard - Two-Handed Sword / Bow
    Edwin - Conjurer - Staff / Sling
    Baeloth - Sorcerer - Whatever / Sling

One of my parties uses Neera as an ID bot - after dismissing her she goes to FAI to wait for us to come to our senses -

So we drop in to the FAI - bring her in the party (dropping someone who won't run off) - give her the mage ring - memorize ID spells - rest - ID stuff - repeat as needed - take ring back - dismiss her and pick up your party member you dropped.

From an RP standpoint we made her promise not to use any other spells and convinced her to erase everything else from her spellbook - she's off the streets - she's not a danger to the community and we get free IDs - life is good...

Baeloth comes with proficiency in Quarterstaff and Darts. I don't like the inventory tetris with them, but if it's only one party member using them, it's not so bad.
