@Chippy, I would suspect that they could simply use the voice sets for the originals for the every day type feedback, then simply not use VO for the extra dialogue. I don't for a minute think that anyone would consider re-hiring the actors, nor do I think it would be financially viable.

In any event, aside from everything else, I don't think the inclusion of a single NPC would generate enough extra content for many people to pay anything significant. Nor has Overhaul exhibited the kind of attitude to suggest that they would go that route. Just my two cents.

This poll is biased. The options are rather loaded.

I support Beamdog, bought PC and Ipad versions of BG:EE, afterall. But I say no. Cos if Beamdog did it, NPCs would lack voicing or use different voice set from the ones we are used from BG1. It has been more than one decade, afterall, so contracting the same voice actors might be impossible. (and even then they might sound different!) I would support if new unique, high quality NPCs are available for BG2, with good voice acting, interactions, quests, and romances. Like the three NPCs they added for BG:EE

"No Thank." Nickeling and diming me for added content would be a surefire way to lose my business. Better graphics and bug fixes are nice, but new content ultimately makes or breaks the price point for me.

I am excited to try out the new thief that Beamdog is working on for BGEE2. At present I really don't use Neera, Dorn and Rassad all that much in BGEE. I just have so many alternate choices. I may become more attached to Rassad in BGEE2 however as at least he won't die every other battle, and from what I've heard will become a powerhouse.
I doubt we will see the old NPCs outside of mods, but I am happy just to see new ones.

I understand people's interest in free stuff. I am very much the same. But as much as I hate the word 'microtransactions', it seems to me that it's becoming a neccessary evil in the business of constant competition between companies. They need to get their funding somewhere. Mind you, I loathe companies such as EA, mainly for what they do to their games, which is basically cutting up everything and selling it in small packages. I'm very much against that. What I DO support, however, is expansions such as Tales of the Sword Coast in the first BG game, as it offered new areas, new quests and great stories. If BG:EE were to get another new expansion like that, I would gladly buy it to support Overhaul. As for NPCs, I already stated my opinion on them in a previous post. As long as they are not mandatory to the game and have high quality writing, I don't mind it.

Ah, but you could interpret the part after "or" to grammatically follow the "I" instead of "I don't like," i.e. I don't like to buy expansions or I support Overhaul in the long term.

Underhand tactics like what the op suggests are not a great way to keep existing customers/attract new customers.

Selling content that didn't exist before as an add-on is not in any way underhanded.

You've got it backwards. You should never have to pay for bug fixes and graphical improvements, but the developers should be compensated for mapping, writing and coding new content. Skyrim is a perfect example. They released a texture pack for free, but charged for the awesomeness of Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLCs.

Judging from the current EE NPC's, I wouldn't trust them to write every new aspect of the game . We've had amazing modders in the past decade!
