If you find Ruffie, go back to Albert. You get 1000xp, a gem and a journal update.

If you find Ruffie, realise that this is a dread wolf and cannot possibly belong to a normal boy, slay him. Then go see Albert you get 1375 xp in total (175xp from killing Ruffie and 1200xp from talking to Albert) plus a jouranl update.

HOWEVER. If you find Ruffie, realise that this is a dread wolf and cannot possibly belong to a normal boy, slay him. Then go see the supposed normal boy Albert and think, 'this aint right', cast detect evil, find evil, unleash all your wands charges at the now metamorphised fiend from the lower planes, whilst he kills your team mates that you are using as living meat shields with one hit criticals and then... finally kill him... You get 1175xp (1000xp for Albert 175xp for Ruffie) and 250gp and this overwhelming sense of being cheated somehow, mixed with unfairness and a complete lack of a journal update...

My character turned jaded without the aid of a wildsurge...

Please can I request at least a journal update if not a bit more xp for doing it 'the hard way'.

Maybe the developers are trying to teach you a lesson:

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”

@AHF That's what could be put on the journal if you choose option c.

Yep. Now older, wiser, and unlikely to resurrect Garrick after the experience... The xp is less of an issue. The journal not being updated is.

Specific XP rewards won't always feel balanced, like many others in this game, but it's the end result that counts. This would join a line of many other similar scenarios.

It would be very cool if Paladins got some kind of bonus for smiting the fiend rather than helping it.

Blackguards and evil PCs should totally get the best reward by helping the fiend.

Also, the fiend looks like a tan'narri while it comes from the nine hells ( Baator ).
Should'nt the paper doll for the transformed state be something more like a cornugon for example?

And add a little journal entry, perhaps increase the exp to 3000 ( though even that is low considering he can solo Drizzt in this game, I'm not even kidding ).

I like Nifft's idea. Experience rewards could be apportioned according to class and alignment. This would probably end a lot of apple-cart disturbances related to good paths invariably leading to better rewards (i.e., the current example being an exception).

That "lesson" falls flat on its ass in a world with Raise Dead.

The answer is "YES I can give them life, you preachy old git, now pass me the diamond dust and watch this."
