@Bhaaldog Yup! You can dude! I hear that Viconia will be pretty hot with CHARNAMEN in bg 2!
Charnamen? Is that some twisted offspring of Charname and Anomen? Why are they getting it on with Viconia? I suppose she is an elf, so is this the canon romance for BG3? =O
I want Bg2, Bg3, Bg4, Bg5 , Bg6 , Bg7 ...........give me give me :P
I am all for more BG:EE games. However, there comes a point where the series jumps the shark. I think that very few games actually make it to 7 without having crossed that line. This isn't madden after all (nor should it be).

"Charnamen" is protagonist-flavored Asian noodles.
@The_spyder hmmm elder scrolls games and Final fantasy have aloot one, two , tree and so on in their game names.. still I want to leave sword coast.... so tired of it.... in 20 years its been games about sword coast.... adventurer in want to explore other places of Faerûn....hmm.... BG3 was supposed (rumored) to be in calimshan... but that game never came out they did a expansion instead to bg2... whoppsss I remember Calimshan is Sword coast ...
Final Fantasy stayed pretty good until at least 10. 12 was not to everyone's tastes. 13 even less so. But FF isn't really a series in the same sense, since it is set in completely different worlds with only loose thematic connections between them. Thankfully. Imagine if they were all set on the same world as FF1...

Yes that why I hope (wish) that future DnD games of forgotten realms are not in sword coast... personally I'm tired of that place ... there are lots of wonders to see other places of abir-toril and to visit.... after all the forgotten realms world is extremly big....
Only time in almost 20 years a dnd game wasnt't in sword coast it was in the game Blood & Magic were you were in Utter East.... sadly that game wasnt that good...still nowdays I play that game whenever i get tired of sword coast...
@The_Shairs_Handbook, i did say 'Very few'. I am not personally a fan of the FF series, so I can't really say. I will admit that The Elder Scrolls has kept things fresh for the most part but they too have evolved over time. I wouldn't compare Skyrim to Arena for example. But for the most part they have kept pretty true and yet still kept up to date and relevant.
The D&D franchise has evolved and changed over the years. Starting out with the Gold Box games from SSI, then on to BG franchise/Infinity engine (including IWD and PST). They jumped the rails a bit with the Snowblind BG:Dark Alliance games, and then the horrendous crap that was Pool of Radiance: Ruins of the series. I personally liked ToEE and NWN quite a lot. NWN2 is still going, if not strong, than at least it isn't dead. But the game has evolved to some degree over the years.
For me, I think the series really hit it's prime with BG1-2. I think that there is still a lot of ground that could be covered using either that engine or something more modern but along the same lines. "For Me", I would prefer if they would stay with 2nd edition if possible for any future installments, but realize that may not be in the cards.
As for the setting, I don't personally care very much. Storm of Zehir took NWN2 to a different location, but that in itself didn't necessarily make it a better game for it. I think that there are still a lot of areas that could be explored if done properly along the Sword Coast. But likewise don't believe that staying in that region is a "Must". Simply that, so long as it is a good story and a well fleshed out area, there is still loads that can be done.
You mention The Elder Scrolls, and they have kept things fresh by covering different countries on the same continent. Ultima did different things (including time travel) to keep things fresh. Make it fresh and new and well written, and anything is possible in my opinion.
I agree with everything... Also like Elder scroll I hope new forgatten realms games will learn from them and also include new area and region of abir-toril for us players...
Bg games are wonderful I like exporing Tethyr wich is is modeled after al-Andalus (Moorish Spain) with some tiny slices of Roman Britain and Amn wich is modeled on medieval Spain/Portugal... sadly BG3 never came out... so it will be interesting how Overhauls Bg3 will take place
I guess what I was saying was that so long as they continue to update and evolve the franchise in ways that are intelligent and keep true to the original (BG1-2) in concept, I am very thrilled for the prospect of more games. If, however they choose to more commercialize it and shoehorn it into an MMO style game (which I personally abhor) or dumb it down like the snowblind people did, then I will personally feel like they have jumped the shark. :::knock wood::: let's hope they don't ever go that way.
Me wants. Please take my money. Take more for a Baeloth add-on. Take more for a decent evil rep system where my fellows don't gripe when I play nice for those in charge...
Tiax clearly will be the main villain! To hunt you down and dominate you he will recruit the fearsome wendersnaven and whiny winged elves. There were obvious clues about this in BG I, how could anyone have missed it!
I see the opening before me already:
One gnome to rule them all.. One gnome to find them... One gnome to point and click and to their duties assign them!
I played a little bit of BG2 recently, and I loved it! ... Cleaned out Nalia's family keep with SCS2 installed, the improved spirit trolls - very challenging and fun some long fights and my berzerker dualed to priest was key in that fight using his flame blade spell to kill the spirit trolls that proved difficult for the mages to finish due to improved invisibility or something hard to target with a spell in time ... and then getting the flail of ages oh man very sweet weapon. The city of Athkatla is great, full of wonders densly pack and popping up wherever you wander! Improved random encounters from SCS is scary ;D I'm a bit rusty at high level play, this demands your full attention

What?
When?
Where?
Why?
there is a BG2

I think that should be the plot for BG3. You play as Tiax who plays a video game.
