Honestly, I tried playing BG2 again, but I couldn't do it.

It looks like an absolute pile of garbage next to BGEE.

So far BG:EE is an improved version of Tutu, with better graphics and zoom feature . So BG2 without zoom is a pile of garbage?

it's not the same thing, bg:ee looks amazing compared to bg2 and @kaeloree is right, loading screens in bg2 now feel like a real pain.

everything in bg2 look worse, the background art, spell animations, weather etc. i can't wait for bg2ee

Do you expect those things to change for BG2:EE? Certainly the background art will be the same. I guess they could use BG1 spell animations, but that doesn't mean the will. I don't know what they'd change regarding the weather.

No it doesn't look "amazing" compared to bg2, and we have discussed it extensively before. It isn't possible mechanically to look amazing since the art is the same.

I think i remember why i didn't bother with the forum any more, but i needed that reminder apparently.

    Anyway, whatever works for you.

    Amazing? Amazing indeed.

They at least have a point in that the 1pp shields and helmets look infinitely better than vanilla Tutu. Beyond that? Eeehh.

Gods, the shields are so much better now. I would rejoice each time I saw one if I had not already blotted their previous form from my memory.

Oh, also, chain and splint mail look a lot better in EE than I remember in vanilla BG2. I've always loved BG2's plate mail, so I'm glad they kept that the same.

@Luigirules We appreciate constructive feedback, and it's perfectly okay for people to not like certain features of BGEE. Not everyone is going to like everything! And that's fine.

The rule here is: be awesome to one another. Let's keep that in mind :)

I hope so. I think the background art could be polished like they did with BGEE. everything simply looks more vibrant in bgee and the spell animations look really pixelated in bg2, especially spell animations like magic missiles

@mjs I don't think they did anything to the background art for BG:EE, other than maybe a little bit of filtering when you zoom in. Same thing goes for casting animations. I'm attaching 3 images. The first is of the original BG with the widescreen mod installed and the second is of BG:EE. The last one is vanilla BG, without the widescreen mod. I honestly can't see any appreciable difference between the first 2.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
There isn't much difference. As was noted about a year ago, we weren't able to get the original art assets that would have allowed us to re-render everything in HD like we wanted. So what you see in the game is what was there before, just with some upscaling when zoomed in.
  • mjsmjs Member Posts: 742
against the images there certainly isn't much difference and i haven't played vanilla bg in years and years, but playing the GOG SoA with widescreen mod after playing bg:ee, i don't know it just isn't as rich. i'll take some screenshots and compare like you've done, maybe i'm just being mental

@TJ_Hooker nope, look pretty much the same to me as well. Though while there are people who think BGEE looks considerably better there are those that think it looks considerably worse as well... So I guess things even themselves out, lol.

It's possible that it's due to a difference between BG1 and BG2, rather than a difference between vanilla and EE. A lot of people just like the overall art design of the first game better than the second.

Well, I might be the only one, and maybe it's because I played with BG2 first, and after that the BG1 resolution seemed very poor, but I actually prefer the backgrounds/animations/spell effects in BG2...

    (Please don't hit me! o.o )

    BG1's character models are better.

    no they arent!
  • EudaemoniumEudaemonium Member Posts: 3,199
They kind of are. Okay not completely, but at least they aren't mirrored like BG2s. That bugs the heck out of me.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
The BG1 character models are better in most ways--unmirrored, greater detail, more animation frames--but in the one way that matters for BG:EE, they fall perilously short: they don't support dual-wielding.

and there's no way for beamdog to be able to add dual wielding animations to the bg1 models?
