Trying to decide on next play through

I am almost done with my present play through
My CHARNAME is Swen Swensen
A CN Gnome male thief - Illiuionist with the same or better stats then Jan Jansen
Had Kalid , Jaheira, Minsc Dynaheir and Neera as party members
So I am thinking about my next play through
Definitly has to have Dorn and the other NPCs have to be evil alignment
My new CHARNAME can be either neutral or evil, but not good alignment
I have a couple of toons already rolled up
TN Human female Totemic Druid Start stat points 90
CE 1/2 elf female Dragon Disciple start stat points 90
CE Elf Female Priest of Talos starting stat points 93
CN Human Female Swashbuckler Same starting stats as Safana
So should I go with one of these or roll another
and what Evil NPCs should round out the party with
Thank You for your time

I'll be honest, if anyone ever asks me what they should play next, I will always suggest a bard. Because bards are bards and thats the best thing a bard can be.

That being said, of those three pre-made characters I'd go for the dragon disciple or swashbuckler, probably the swashbuckler. Always handy to be able to disarm and unlock your own stuff.

Swashbuckler has some great distance to it. If you get tired of being a swashie you can dual class to something else. You're not locked into one class since you're a human thief. And Swashies are great for Dual Classing because they're already like Fighter/Thieves, so dualing to a mage gets you a really robust mage and dualing to a fighter gets you an especially durable fighter/thief that's Dual Wield Competant.

And for a PC, a Swashbuckler is a lot less squishy than a normal thief or the other kits. You lose backstab, which is like asking to get chunked after your one good attack, to get really boosted combat power where you're supported by the rest of your team.

Plus the name is cool. "Swashbuckler". Damn, now I wanna watch some Errol Flynn.

You may want to avoid dragon disciple for now because they are kinda buggy at right now.

I'm not good enough to be a bard. It seems like the only ones that succeed fighting are the fighter gang, so I stick there.

I'd take the Priest of Talos from your premades, since I have such a charname myself. If you plan on taking another healer, you can probably dual to fighter and have a damn neat Stormshield.

The Swashbuckler... I don't know, I'm very attached to the assassin kit and backstabbing, and Safana's stats are nothing to write home about. A swashbuckler is basically a melee oriented thief, and Safana is not. I'd probably max traps, dual to mage and then stay away from melee.

I'd say a bard kit. If you lean more toward melee, a Blade. If you lean toward casting, a jester.

I suggest playing the cn Swashbuckler, but you would want to reroll those stats because Safana isn't all that good when you get down to it. The pro's about a swashbuckler is that you could a good front line fighter and a thief at the same time. Also I tend to like to have two fighters and three spell casters with a rogue. So it would allow you to get a good evil theif early in the game. So with you as a rogue. Vicky or Brawen as your healer. Xzar and Edwin as your mages you could even duel Xzar later to cleric if you wish. That leaves Dorn and someone else I suggest Kagain because I heard nothing but good things about that dwarf. But in all seriousness you can't enjoy the game with Imoen in your party. Shame on you.

Actually, the only way I can enjoy the game is without Imoen. With her in the party, it feels like a flashback to my youth when I had to babysit younger cousins.

However, a swashbuckler with different stats than Safana (you may want better strength/con if you frontline, which is the whole point of the kit) can be a lot fun, too.

    Mutton mongerin riff raff.

Also if you choose a swashbuckler you'll level up faster than the rest of the party especially if you put yourself at the the top of party list. If you don't like that you could put her in the back so she gets less experience points.

Umm... No. It makes no difference in which formation or portrait order; all members gain the same amount of XP. Some classes level faster, but that's not because they gain more XP, it's because they need less to level up.

Wait a second, but if the experience points that is gain isn't a number thats evenly divisible by six don't the top of the party gain the reminder of what's left? Or does it get sucked up by the experience vacuum?

  • KidCarnivalKidCarnival Member Posts: 3,747
It's certainly not enough to level faster. Think about the XP you get per quest, and how much is left after dividing through 6 (or whatever party size you have). I had a run with a Blackguard charname and Dorn in 1 and 2. Charname was less than 30 XP ahead of Dorn at most.

What are the bugs and glitches for the Dragon Disciple
one thing I would like to see change for the D.D. kit is to be able to use the Breath weapon more then once a day, like the Fighter berserker kit gets a additional berserk per day every four or five levels I would like to see something similar for the Dragon Disciple kit
