Is This A Good Idea?

I REALLY love playing as my character, Beatrice. . . a level 5 Mage with the portrait of Queen Bavmorda, from Willow. (The movie).
So. . . I got 87 in all stats BUT, I want to get all the state bonuses from the first game in EE. However, it's going to be along time until BG2 EE comes out, SO, I want to replay her, but I don't want to restart at level 1. Do you guys think it's legit to constantly take the stat upgrade Tomes in BG1 EE until BG2 EE comes out?

I'd say no. Take them once and be done with it. That said, it's your game; do what you want!

Hmm... You know, simply upgrading Tiax to a wisdom level of 16 sounds the way to go, once I've done my first run with it.

Its not a bad idea. Super-high stats don't help a mage that much once you hit Int 19. And after playing through a couple times with the sam character, I'm pretty sure you'll get bored and roll up a new one.

Good choice of portrait though. Willow is one of my favorite movies. =3

Ah, yes, Willow was my favorite movie from the time I was nine years old up until the time Passion of the Christ came out.

If you've already used the tomes on yourself the first run, use them on your NPCs and have a dual-classed party! You've got the right idea with Tiax.

Then edit the stats of the NPCs in BG2 with the higher stats =3

Viconia plus another 3 wis is pretty scarey ^^

it is ok since mages are not benefiting from stats like fighters or clerics

Keep playing to your stats are maxed out and your eyes begin to bleed.

I do. And my sanity has not been effected...

I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay, (no... stop... the urge...*sigh*)
    I post all night!
    And play BG all day!
    I ask for extra features,
    Like Baldurrans grey pants,
    No one seems to notice,
I end up in a rant...

    I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay,
    I post all night,
    Play BG all day!
    I went and romanced Neera,
    It went oh really swell,
She summoned up a large cow,
And on my head it fell...

    ...

    Everyones a critic Sham (hic!)

At the end of the day, nothing says you "Can't" or shouldn't continue to replay and replay and replay just to get the tomes to max out your stats. But if you have that kind of time, I personally could find a lot more fun things to do with it. You can also 'Console' up the tomes if you are that invested in jacking up your stats to unreasonable levels.

But really, as a Mage, what are you getting for your time? Once your INT hits 19, the rest of it is just gravy. I personally play with a mage who's stats are in the low 80s with no ill effects.

@the_spyder Name one fun thing you could do, that is more fun than playing BG...

Whatever you say... I'm not going to believe you... Because its a warped world in front of my computer... Or should I say the world behind my head that I see sometimes in the reflection of my monitor...

    I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay,
    I post all night,
    Play BG all day!
I like to kill our Drizzt,
But I don't like too cheat,
So I summoned up some werebears,
    And Drizz-it he was beat!

    I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay,
    I post all night,
    Play BG all day!
    I put on womens clothing,
    Suspenders and a bra,
    Find that funny girdle,
    And find the nearest bar!

I'd use the tomes on NPCs, since that will not carry over.

Um, not understanding. Tome usage on Charname DOES carry over. Or were you saying that you use tomes on NPCs because you don't want them to carry over? Or were you simply being sarcastic? It's hard to tell.

On my second and any following runs, I would use the tomes on NPCs, because using them on NPCs does not carry over. I would not want to use the same tome more than once on my PC.

In all honesty, it really won't make a difference if you're a Mage. 19 INT provides a minor boost to spell memorization, but really it's pretty negligible. Other than that, it's no big deal. DEX might give you some minor boosts at higher levels, but again after 19 it's like, three points until another AC boost? The wealth of STR boosting items in SoA, combined with the general uselessness of STR for a Mage, make that one unimportant; I don't believe CON provides any benefits above 15 or so anyway (It might allow regeneration, not sure, never tried it). WIS and CHA...

I think the only characters who really benefit from this are Fighters, who benefit hugely from massive CON, and Priests, who receive absurd bonuses for massive WIS (doing it right now, actually... 21 WIS Cleric gets +3 extra level 4 spells and +1 extra level 5 spell)

Having been watching "Life's Too Short" recently I can just imagine the response of Warwick Davis to this thread. Maybe I should find his website and let him know that some people have seen Willow (myself included - great film) ... and that someone named their character after Queen Bavmorda.

Ah well I didn't name her after Queen Bavmorda, but I did use her portrait!:)
