how do mods work when it comes to multiplayer

right so it just hit me after i'd finished heavily modding my BG:EE what if i want to play with people who are not using mods or not the same mods as myself?? how would that work if at all.

any clarification on this matter would be great.

Custom portraits will work fine but other players will only see them if they have the same custom portraits.

Everything else has to be identical, or the session won't work properly.

I tested this in BG2 some time ago. I had some little mods like the fix pack, and some custom item mods. Multiplayer worked, but if I happened to drop the modded item into another players inventory it would crash the game, or it just got rid of the item. Can't remember. But I don't know if that's the case in BG:EE though.

@HoboJoe0858 It is. Always make sure all players have the same mods installed. Also the mods must have been installed in the same order or you may have different string references in your tlk file, leading to the wrong descriptions, for instance.
