Where Is Joseph ? (And what do I do with his ring?)

Is Joseph the dead miner we find in the Nashkel mines? And what do we do with his Ring? I have never found any relevance to the Greenstone Ring in any of my play throughs throughout the years.

Give the ring to his wife in Naskel, the house that is across from where you find Edwin on the bridge.

Getting the ring back to Joseph's wife can be a real pain. The ring is hard to even notice unless you Tab mercilessly and then you need to know you gotta take it somewhere and where that is. But its such a nice thing to do. T_____T

In a locked house in the east south corner of the Nashkel, there is a woman waiting for any information about his beloved Joseph.

No wonder. I very rarely use evil or even neutral parties.
I would feel like an ass just busting into someone's house for no reason, ecspecialy by having a burglar just undo the lock to the door.

Apparently Joseph was a member of the Green Lantern Corps...

We should give it back than; being Bhaalspawn, red or black lantern rings would fit better.

At least it isn't the One Ring.

Though I do seem to recall a ring of invisibility in BG2. I wonder...

You don't have to be evil and steal everything in a home if you unlock their door. Hey, you are doing a security check for people. When you break in, it means their locks are not good enough so they should replace it asap. Also, you may happen into actual evil guys looting the place (happens in BG) Most of the homes have nothing interesting to loot, anyway so you can just enter, check if people are okay or need something, and leave. (Nashkel manor is worth looting though...not..not that I did, ofcourse!)

The Two Ring is superior anyways.

Yeah I agree completely. Since the game doesn't have a "knock and wait" feature, I'm okay with my good parties opening locked doors just to make sure all is well. I have helped many people by doing this. But of course its a little flakey from an RP perspective, I do wish I could just knock!

as a good character, how do i know that a locked house isn't filled with kobolds, smugglers or any amounts of evils? a locked house is very suspicious. i'm just ensuring everyone's safe, by busting into houses uninvited. sure you could be reasonable everyday people, just wanting to safeguard your property and privacy...but you could be plotting an act of mass murder, holding people hostage or listening to justin bieber

for the safety of everyone it's imperative that i break your lock, have a root around your chests and confiscate any obviously dangerous items

    "or listening to justin bieber"

Any NPC listening to this deserves to be gibbed.

That's exactly what I think doesn't work. It's more like lawful-Evil thought police kind of stuff to go kicking in doors because of what MIGHT be happening inside. I just want a "knock" option!

@atcDave The Forgotten Realms needs a 4th Amendment.

But CHARNAME's not a government official. I think regular old Breaking and Entering laws would do it.

What if you're playing a Paladin?

Metagame and only break into the houses with quests. You can say your god led you to an opportunity to do a good deed.
  • CaptRoryCaptRory Member Posts: 1,660
    I like that.
My point was more, as a Lawful guy, would a paladin respect the 4th Amendment since he is sort of an officer of justice.

Oh, my bad. In that case, you're probably right. Even though it doesn't technically apply to them, a paladin would most likely obey the 4th amendment, or it's local equivalent.

I often do play a Paladin, and that's exactly what I mean as a problem. I really can't justify B&E. but I will meta-game and enter the homes where I know help is appreciated. I think of it as "knocking" and waiting for an answer. But the game actually allows no such thing. So I consider Imoen doing her thing to be the mechanism for knocking. Like I said, it doesn't really work, but there's no mechanism to do what I want to do.

@atcDave One of the characters in The Dresden Files series of books is Michael AKA The Fist of God, AKA A Knight of the Cross wielding a sword with a nail from the Crucifixion worked into it. There are three of them and they have Deus ex Machina as a fringe benefit of service. Like, the local priest Father Forthill is used to having his car break down near Michael's Home when Michael needs a babysitter so he can go forth and smite evil.

Thought it might be an interesting bit of trivia.
