New ToB speedrun in under 6 minutes!

OYMEOYME Member Posts: 36
I didn't do this. Credit of this run goes to "smilge". This is an official speedrun verified by speeddemosarchive (SDA). Glitches and exploits are allowed. Actual cheat codes entered somewhere in a menu are not allowed. Save states and slow motion aka a tools assisted speedrun (TAS) is also not allowed. Authors comments about how he did the run can be viewed at SDA in the link below as well as some older speedruns.

And I thought massing planetars with the project image exploit was cheesy...I was wrong!

This one is already submitted to the Bugs as some glitches involved

Amazing video. The Lord of Glitches is truly spectacular.

There's breaking a game. And then there this, where you shatter the game and make it your personal bitch.

"Not wanting to spend more than 6 minutes playing ToB. I'm sure we all know that feeling. "

But we all are going to take advantage of Wtcher's Keep, HLAs and other goodies... Seems legit.

What the what whaat!?!? This is insane! I don't know if I should congratulate you or stare at you with shock and fear... :-)

I've discovered Reckless Dweomer glitch via hotkeys, but never thought about abusing it like this. ^^

I can't even tell what is happening in this game.

I didn't do the run, "smilge" did. Shame on me for forgetting to credit the individual who did this.

@ajwz: I really don't know what you mean.

Also, what is the point of speedruns?! I find them god-awful, made by idiot people who have no love or respect for games.

I'm pretty sure this was done merely to illustrate the glaring flaws in ToB/BG scripting, not as a genuine "record" attempt. More of a curiosity than an actual feat.

meh. there is some guy on youtube who runs through vanilla bg1 in less than 30 mins, but as long as you have to use glitches it's not legit in my book.
  • Lord_TansheronLord_Tansheron Member Posts: 4,212
I sure hope he isn't claiming that anywhere. Most runs like that are done for comical value more than anything, I don't expect anyone seriously considering these "record feats".

The point is that his knowledge of the game is so perfect that he can finish it in this way.

The point is that his knowledge of the game is so perfect that he can finish it in this way.

As far as i can tell he uses an exploit to kill the giant ( timestop troll polymorph?) without first doing the associated quest to destroy the source of his invincibility and then triggers the final boss fight by killing Balthazar without ever going near Sedai or the dragon.

A question about the gameplay in the video. He picked sorcerer in the game, but how did he get wild surge? In the game, he used wild surge to reveal the map in the sewer and kill Gromnir w/ chromatic orb+no save.
  • Lord_TansheronLord_Tansheron Member Posts: 4,212
Not to mention that the "6-minute run" probably involved a lot of reloading until he got that Wild Surge on Gromnir...

Am I the only one who sees this video as "Quick guide to flaws that need to be fixed in BG2EE"?

He could have edited the char file in SK

    @Samus not really, but I am a connoisseur of disgusting cheese, as I had my share of cheese that made me borderline want to commit suicide... one tasted like the concentration of 10 thousand socks in a small piece of yellow glory. Never again D;

But more on topic, how the hell did he cast that Reckless Dweomer? I am CONFUS!

It would have been quicker to set the necessary Globals and then console yourself to Melissan's place.

Updated my original post with the SDA link since everyone missed it in his video discription. Whether you like or hate this speedrun, the fact that he explains the breaking of this game can be used as a benefit for fixing bugs now. There is even a commentary for the SoA speedrun on how he explains some more glitches he used. Search for it on youtube.

Btw, smilge replied to my reckless dweomer question on youtube. Apparently, if you're fast enough through hotkeys, you can cast spells you're not allowed to, through contingencies and sequencers too.

Well, if that's the case, then I... dunno... I guess he's running on steroids or something? :p

@Cheesebelly If you want to know what improved haste would look like in real life just look for any professional Starcraft player video in Youtube.
