Saemon Haverian

Saemon Haverian is possibly the most realistic game character ever made. He uses you again and again and always gets away with it. In any other game, he would have paid for his crimes but in BG 2 you can only gain revenge from meta-knowledge and careful planning.

No other game character has ever has ever elicited such loathing form me. No other character's death has ever brought me so much pleasure. Forget about Irenicus or Melissian, in BG 2 Saemon Haverian is the big boss.

I agree that he's one of the best realized characters of the series and wish he was recruitable, actually.

Not 100% sure, but wasn't he a forgotten realms character before baldur's gate?

He does make it up to you in the end though.

He helps you get into Balthazar's place. He was supposed to poison you (again) for Balthazar but decided not to.

Wait, but when I enlist his aid, all I got was an ambush.

Hee, I love that guy! Seriously, the first time I was playing BG2/ToB, I was furious the first time he betrayed me... and the second... and the third
(Irenicus, Pirate King, Githyanki - he tried to feed me to all of them).
And the I got to ToB, and bumped into him again and he pulled that stunt with stolen goods... and I just burst out laughing. I mean, can you believe that guy? Is he for real? After that, every meeting with him was a source of amusement and a private game of 'how will Haverian screw me over this time, and how fast will he make himself scarce when things get hot?' I don't need planning or meta-gaming to get a revenge. I live happily with the knowledge that one of my PCs, once he became a god, made it a sport and favorite entertainment to throw more and more ridiculously difficult situations at Mr. Saemon, and watch him wiggling out of them. (Come one, come all, and bring your own popcorn! This week Saemon Haverian has been kidnapped by carnivorous sirens!) ]:D

I killed him once, when Githyankis aboarded the ship, and the battle broke out, my pc casted a finger of death instantly at Saemon, killing him outright. Considering the ship sank then, he must have been fish-food. But, he turns up like a bad penny in ToB. What, did he have an Elminster-style contingency that teleported his body to safety and casted resurrection? What's his class, anyway? I think he is a thief or fighter dualled into mage.

Next time I meet him I'll kindly Time-stop Mind-flay him to death :)

Killing him is easy. My disc 4 is damaged so I'm missing the ship ride (well... most of it) and presumably whatever is on the other end of it as well...

Regardless, since I have the free reign to, I make a note to go down to the docks and kill him on every playthrough I make. He just stands around waiting for you to have at him, and he doesn't put up that much of a fight.

You get unique dialogue options when you return to Aran Linvail as well, when he offers to have assassins sent out for him.

    @lunar @Samus - He is a TN Human Swashbuckler>Mage (L12/14) according to the manual.

It's more fun to kill him in TOB. Cast wish, choose double time stop and alacrity, cast improved haste and strenght, dual wield katanas and then hack him to bits while gloating. "What's the matter Saemon, can't run away now, can you?" Laugh manically, reload and repeat.

Was Saemon Havarian some D&D "celebrity" like Drizzt, or does he only appear in the BG games?

Whilst not evil, he is a selfish, cowardly bastard. One who I hope karma catches up with someday.

And by 'karma' we mean the New Lord of Murder.

I don't rate his odds whether CHARNAME ascends or not, actually. By the end of my playthrough, he's managed to royally piss of a level 31 arch-mage, who JUST KILLED A DEMI-GOD. Lots and lots of pain coming his way, let me tell you.

Per the Forgotten Realms wiki, Saemon is a BG-only character.

Also, this complex, nefarious, love-to-hate-him scoundrel is apparently translated into "a drunk with a boat" in the novels. Yay, canon!

Those novels were just so good.

Listen, let's be glad they stopped at books and we never got movies.

All his name means to me is "game-breaking bug", in vanilla BG2. He often fails to spawn at his ship at the chapter trigger point. I had to use the clua console to force-spawn him the last time I played a full SoA run, in order to save weeks worth of play.

I always thought he was Chaotic Neutral over TN. I thought it fitted more his character.
