Confused Sarevok runs out of the temple and disappears.

The party cannot pursue him because of no way out since you enter the temple. That's all. No possible further game continuation.

    Sarevok realized he left the oven on and rushed off before his house burns down, he'll be back as soon as he confirms his muffins are OK

    He left a note that asked you to stick and wait for him in the evil temple for just another five minutes for him to come back.

    I think he ran off to Durlag's tower to pick up some powerful items and gain a few levels. You just wait there he'll come around to kill you in 125days.

    I have this hilarious image in my head of Sarevok wearing his demon armor and a frilly, pink apron that says "Kiss the cook" with matching oven mitt.
