Any official information on BG2EE ?

So... any chance we could see a bit of information on BG2EE ?

A few rumors have been discussed but i'm not even sure they're true :

-BG2EE should be released in 2013
- the new characters of BGEE should return in BG2EE and all (?) have a romance ?
- some new characters including an evil female thief should make their appearance, and they all (?) have romances too ?
- writing of all the new dialogs and quests is finished ( seems so because the number of new lines is already known)

Since the game should be out in few months, and that the new content writing seems pretty much done, i was wondering why there is absolutely no official info for the fans ?

I'm not asking for a precise release date, i really don't care.

What could be nice though, is some light on the new NPC for example... i don't see why their names, classes and romances should stay hidden (they're obviously known by the devs by now). Or the number of new quests (the precise content could be a surprise of course). Or maybe, just say if the previous rumors were true and to which extent ?

I'm just asking, because a month ago you were talking about increasing transparency... but not talking at all about a game you'll release in less than 6 months (if you really want to release it in 2013) seems a bit odd then.

Especially since summer is coming ;) and i feel like summer vacation would not be a good time to release info for the promotion of the game.

@GodKaiserHell: Sure, when they're meant to be surprises. But there were press releases and biographies for Dorn, Neera and Rasaad long before the game actually launched...

BG2:EE is most likely coming in 2013 and failing that, early 2014, I assume.

It's been confirmed a long while ago that the new NPCs are returning and they will all have romances.

It's been stated more than once that there will be a 4th new NPC, most likely a female Thief, and that she will be romanceable by both male and female protagonists.

There will be new content, and judging from the revealed word count, it's substantially more than we've seen in BG:EE, which is cool because the original BG2 was also a substantially larger game than BG1.

There hasn't been any kind of official announcement as of now and trust me, when there is, there'll be no need to start a thread asking about it - it'll be the first thing you notice when wandering around these parts.

Ok, thanks for the clarifications. I thought we would have more than one new NPC, so it's good to know the truth.

Also, this thread was about "why on earth don't they want to make official announcement since the writing is done, and they have a contract to release it soon" ?

I mean, we already have press releases, images and videos and official announcements for games to be released post-2013, and it seems usual now to announce games sooner than later...

Well we ended up getting a secret 4th new NPC in BG:EE, so you never know what they might have up their sleeves...

The secret NPC isn't returning as a joinable one, though.

I know I'm not citing any sources for any of this stuff, but all of this was posted somewhere around here by one or more devs. I promise I'm not trying to bullshit anyone or spread rumors.

A lot of people brought that up before BG:EE's release as well, and it seems they have their hands tied regarding official announcements, specially when it involves stuff like screenshots, gameplay footage, artwork, etc. All promotional material must be approved by people from Atari/WotC, and that can really slow down and/or limit the scope of any of their attempts at a full-fledged marketing campaign.

For example, the first trailer for the game came out a mere week before the initial release date, but we knew it existed for at least a couple of months before that.

    You're incredibly optimistic.

Optimistic? Do you think the game is going to be released in 2020!? The developers have a contract to release the game within a certain time-frame. Though they could possibly extend that time like they did with BG:EE. I still think we're going to see BG2:EE before 2014, but we'll never know since the developers are legally bound not to share their contract information.

I think they'll honor their contract, but the game release might be as problematic it was with BgEE because they could not have enough time to complete the work : languages packs not finished, some bugs remaining, and so on.

I don't really see any reason why they would delay the release beyond 2013 unless they want more new features at launch. They have a working engine (BG:EE is running on it) and the content seems to be pretty close to done, since the dialog is already there. It's also fairly easy to estimate the time it takes to complete the content, because you don't run into unexpected issues like you do with game engine changes where things don't always work the way you expect them to.

Also, BG2:EE launch should be pretty smooth compared to what BG:EE was, since they've had people test the engine with BG:EE and they don't have to convert any assets.

BG2EE is being tested already so I see no great reason for delays...

Language packs are dealt with by volunteer teams. Those that are ready when the game is released will be released with it. More will be added in future patches.

If you want to know if a particular language is ready or not you can always ask the translation team members in the language forum. I really don't know if any language translation is ready besides English...

Just don't be surprised if their answers have no details. They are under NDA as are all beta testers and Overhaul's team members.

Well, that''s great news !! Too bad you can't promote the game as soon as you want then.

Seems you have less problems with BG2EE than with the BGEE patch... That's something at least.
