Missing itens from BG2 in BG 1

Just a question. As BG1 will use BG 2's engine will the itens that didn't exist in BG1 be present?

For instance. There were no katanas/wakisashi in BG1, as far as I remember, so if I intend to make the classic katana/wakisashi dual wielder Kensai/mage it becomes suddenly pretty harder...

    I think they mentioned including new items in BG1. Katanas and the like are probably included.
