What kind of legal problems, and think it'll ever end?

What kind of legal problems, like financial issues, licensing, what? Did the backers leave the project due to failed multiplayer issues? My mind is running rampant with speculation, someone give me some info o.o

Think it'll end, or this is it, game over, cash out?

I sincerely hope it isn't game over, since I was planning on throwing money at them for BG2EE and BG3. However it wouldn't be a total loss, since next year I'll have Project Eternity to look forward to.

If I had to blindly speculate, I'd say WotC is involved, but whoever it is is probably huffing about money they believe they're owed.

The only official news we have heard is the issues are coming from Atari. The latest speculation is it has to do with Atari selling off the BG IP as part of its chapter 11 bankruptcy case (see link below for some convincing arguments). Long story short: since Beamdog is only leasing the rights to make the EE from Atari, if Atari sells it, Beamdog can't legally sell or continue work on the game. It looks like Beamdog is working on a way of buying Atari's part of the BG IP so they can continue work on it, or working on a new contract with the company who plans to buy it. Either way these kinds of legal issues could take months (maybe years) to clear up.

For the latest speculation you should take a look at http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/19518/there-is-hope/p1.

    To end... like THIS!

What? Samus isn't around anymore. Somebody had to write it.

I'm sure whatever issues they are having will be resolved. Its in Atari's best interest to have at least the next patch released.

What happened to Samus? How did he get ban?

As depressing as it is, I'd be quite surprised if these issues ever get resolved. I truly believe BG2:EE is dead.

    Exactly my thoughts as well.

Also the recent Steam sale is somehow discouraging. It 's like someone decided to milk the cow as much as possible before it dies.

I am really sad to be honest, I never had gamebreaking issues and I was really looking forward for the patch and for BG2 EE.

FOr me BG 1 is just a fun intro for the greatest game of all times.

Well as of now, all we know is it has to do with Atari's BG IP rights due to the bankruptcy.

I'm actually pretty confident something will happen. I don't see someone buying BG and shelving it.

Furthermore the total silence of TrentOster/PhillipDaigle/.../ in the recent days isn't much encouraging

I don't see someone buying BG and shelving it.

They might not want to waste time and money with such a nonprofitable enterprise, and instead work on a first-person AAA action-adventure BG3.

    According to Jalily

"Samus was banned for the following reasons:
    1. Creating multiple accounts to give themselves positive reaction votes.
    2. Abusing the flagging system by marking harmless posts made by users who had marked them in the past.
    3. Disrespecting staff members and attempting to undermine their decisions when Samus didn't get what they wanted.

The spam after the final warning was just the last straw." (the spam was a white rabbit thing he put up which really was pretty spamish imo)

Samus actually emailed me about having a zip file containing "rather damning evidence against a certain individual" and also said that he/she wouldn't be returning. So umm...take that as you will.

What? Nothing to see here folks. Just two forum dwellers having an off topic conversation :)

there was some kind of issue between her and the moderators and she accumulated 10 reports. i hear she was reporting people who had reported her before so they fought back because she was just reporting random posts of there. also she had secondary accounts giving her likes etc, but i dont see why she would considering how many people were already liking it up. this is what i understand from the talk on her page

Multiple accounts for purposes of likes? Why didn't I think of that?!

    brb making some new accounts
  • ChowChow Member Posts: 1,192
And you're sure the matter will be resolved?
  • MalicronMalicron Member Posts: 629
Technically speaking, getting a concrete answer of "No, BG2:EE will never, EVER come out" counts as a resolution.

I'm going to blame the Moon being Void of Course, and Mercury being in Retrograde, or something.

So... I'm hearing DON'T wait for BG 2: EE anytime soon and to just use the original BG2?

Yes, allowing for unforeseen events, it will be resolved; it's just a matter of when.

    So when? :)

  • shawneshawne Member Posts: 3,239
@AltWren: It depends on your patience and/or whether you have other things to keep you busy in the interrim - at this point, it's unlikely we'll have any new information until the end of the month, after the Atari auctions are completed and the dust settles.

As I understand it, the best-case scenario is that Atari sells the rights to Beamdog, in which case there's nothing stopping them from resuming all BG-related work.

The worst-case scenario is that another company purchases the rights, which will then force Beamdog to negotiate a new contract with whoever those new folks may be. That could take months.
  • BlakeDrapetaBlakeDrapeta Member Posts: 21
I really hope that Beamdog buys the rights. If this leaves them a little short, I'd definitely pre-order or support the game through kickstarter, even though they've already said their partners aren't crazy about it.

If it wasn't nailed on this discussion board, we could even say it's pushing daisies.

Indeed. I found this article to be interesting at least concerning the culture that exists in Atari's boardroom. The founder of course might have a spite against the company, but given all that has happened he's looking to be bang on in his assessment :(

Someone should build you a statue and quote the above below it. Possibly a finished statue so that we know that everything is fine! :)
