[Solved] My character is mute!

I just got this game on Steam and during character creation I could not hear any of the voice options for my character. Similarly when I click on myself in game I don't make any sounds even though the chat window shows an acknowledgement. I can hear other characters speak just fine.

Ye Olde System Specs
OS: Windows XP Home SP3
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 64-bit 4400+
RAM: 4GB installed
Graphics: nVidia GeForce 9800GT
Audio: Realtek AC'97 (integrated with motherboard)

EDIT: For those who don't want to follow the link below, click Start > Run... type "dxdiag" and press Enter. When that loads, go to the "Sound" tab and change the Hardware acceleration to the second notch "Basic acceleration".
