BG1 great items early on (Spoiler)

Wanted to make a list of some great items you could get early on, and how you get them.

[Dagger +1 / Difficulty 1/5]

You talk to the guard in candlekeep at the barracks and run the errand for him (Bolts) he will give you this dagger if you have a high charisma. You need to either have 18 charisma or 16-17 and a good reputation score.

[Star Sapphire / Difficulty 2/5]

On the second floor of Candlekeep inn at the back you can find a chest that is locked. It contains a Star Sapphire worth 1000 gold and requires a lockpick skill of 60 to open.

[Diamond / Difficulty 1/5]

When you get to the first map (Where gorian is killed) if you go to the west and follow the road, you'll find a tree on the left side of the road past Montaron and Xzar, there is a diamond in the tree.

[Ring of Protection +1 / Difficulty 1/5]

The second zone you enter (With Elminster) if you walk up you'll find a stone, it's in the stone.

[Ring of Wizardry / Difficulty 1/5]

When you enter the friendly arms inn map, go to your right and then you'll find three stones that are around a tree. Hold in shift and you'll see it.

[Bastard Sword +1 / Difficulty 2/5]

In Beregost if you enter the smithy at night it'll be empty and you can loot the containers. The second one from the door has a Bastard Sword +1 in it.

[Algernons Cloak / Difficulty 3/5]

You need some pickpocket for this or a couple of reloads. When you go into Feldpost Inn you'll find Algernonr (Big guy) on the second floor, pickpocket him]

[Diamond / Difficulty 3/5]

The house next to the Red sheaf inn contains a chest on the first floor that holds a diamond. It requires you to have 85-90 lockpick to open.

[900 easy experience / Difficulty 1/5]

You don't have to fight against marl in Beregost you can also talk yourself out of it, and this gives you more experience. Use the combination 1-1-3-3-1.

[Flail +1 and 2500 experience / Difficulty 2/5]

When you get to the ankheg map if you move up to the west you'll find the two buildings and the three men that are involved in the Umberlee bowl quest. You can kill them here for no reputation hit and loot the bowl and a flail +1 (From the man in blue). Once you have done this then hug the waters edge and move up through the map to the bridge map. You won't have to fight any ankhegs when you're at the water so this is a very easy way for you to gain 2500 experience at level 1.

Once you have gotten to the bridge map move up to the priest of umberlee and talk to her, get her to attack you and then hit her once or twice to trigger the next dialogue. Give her the bowl and you'll get 2 500 experience. That's quite a nice bunch for no running around and only killing 3 peasents.

[Cloak of Protection +1 and 800 experience / Difficulty 3/5]

When you move up from the bridge and run past the Ankheg behind the Umberlee priests house, you'll come up to a zombie infested farm. The zombies are very easy to kill with a ranged weapon as they are really slow, after you cleared the map you'll get 800 experience from the guy at the house, and inside you'll be able to open a chest for a cloak of protection +1. This chest requires 70-80 open lock to get.

[Ring of Free Action / Difficulty 2/5]

When you get to ulgoth's beard you'll find a halfling woman infront of you, her name is Dushai. Pickpocket her for the ring of free action.

[War hammer +1 / Difficulty 1/5]

Inside Ulgoth's beard inn you'll find a War hammer +1 in the back room. Just make sure to steal it when the peasents are out of the room.

[Bastard sword +1, +3 vs shapeshifters / DIfficulty 2/5]

You'll find this in the house on the upper side when you enter Ulgoth's beard. It's locked in a chest that requires 70-80 open lock and a woman will wander in the house, it's possible to wait for her to leave the room before stealing the sword.

This sword is a Bastard Sword +1 in BGEE.

[700 gold / Difficulty 1/5]

In the house closest to the water you'll find a chest inside that you can lock up for 700 gold. The man in the house (Starts werewolf quest) will not say anything when you take the money. Requires a 60 open lock to get.

There are many oher things in the game, but these are items you can get right out of candlekeep.

Good list. There is BG:EE special mace in Beregost, too. Also, Nashkel has good freebies as well.

Yes Nashkel has the free Ankheg armor and much more, same with the ring of fire resistance in the rockwall. The reason i didn't mention those was because this list is around Friendly Arm inn and very close to eachother. It's practically a sweep of friendly arm inn, beregost and the bridge for some useful items and experience with no chance of dying.

I wanted to keep it to a spesific area or i'll have people running all around the woods finding stuff :)

Ring of Wizardy is probably the most important of all the above.

However, one of the strangest things in BG1&BG2 is that no tutorial tells you about the "Tab key" which shows all interactive objects in your area. One of the most important key to use.

It didn't exist in BG vanilla.

I would rate Ring of Free Action above the Ring of Wizardry when it comes to important. The Ring of Wizardry doubles your level 1 spells which is amazing. But the Ring of Free Action lets you fight ghouls, vampiric wolfs, Carrion crawlers, basilus and all the other clerics without having to worry about getting held. It also lets you wander into spider infested maps and not worry about the traps, so your fighter can trigger all the traps before the rest of your party move in.

You can also talk to the noble couple downstairs in the inn about protecting their belongings from thieves, if you have 18 charisma they will deposit two more gems, together worth 750 gold (iirc), in the locked chest, bringing the total to 1750.

    [Drizzt's swords / Difficulty 5/5]
In the area south south west of Beregost you can find Drizzt. You can pick his pocket to get his two awesome scimitars +3, some of the best weapons in the game, but you will probably need a potion of master thievery. Alternatively you could kill him and get the armor too very early on with the help of some yummy cheese.

Dushai has a Web scroll too. I always seem to pick that before the ring. Also in the inn you can pickpocket the dwarf Hurgan Stoneblade for a War Hammer +1, +4 vs. Giant Humanoids.

In Beregost you can also get a Ring of Protection +1 from Mirianne doing a simple quest / pickpocket, and a Wand of Lightning by breaking into the Manor near Neera.
