@elminster and if I'm not mistaken we have @trentoster to thank for that change. His halfling fighter/thief iirc crit an anagram of the original bg1 team for 120.

I.e. elminster is right for bgee and bg2 but not vanilla. And all the wannabe assassins were sad.

If you were right it would be impossible for me to do 12 damage on a backstab using a short sword (with specialisation which grants +2 damage) and while having 18/78 strength (gives +4 to damage). Even if the short sword did 1 damage (its a 1d6 weapon) the minimum damage I would do on a x2 backstab with the following character would be 14 if it were the case that strength was added before the multiplier.

Strength modifiers are added to damage after the backstab multiplier not before. Say I had 19 strength and I attacked someone (from behind while hidden). Say I would have done 6 damage but I have a X3 backstab multiplier. I would do 18 damage + 7 damage from the strength (25 damage).

My apologies I was not aware of this! I'll edit my post to fix that!

Thanks for all of the feedback. I thinks might try a halfling, even though I was originally leaning elf. Halfling fighter/thief just seems like one of these classic combos like elven fighter/mage, dwarven fighter/cleric, etc. I am thinking starting with **daggers, *darts, *single weapon. I figure since they already have a bonus with darts, better to spend the specialization on daggers. Eventually, dual wield with Celestial Fury and Kundane and fire tooth, but will I get enough pips for this early enough?

Maybe *katana, *dual, **dual, **katana, *short sword, but not sure what levels I get pips. Also, if I planning on using darts a lot in BG1 should add the second pip or is the race bonus enough?

Don't start with 2 pips in katana to start because I think they are 650g with 18 cha in candlekeep

Yeah, I noticed that when I started a kensai character before. I am starting with **daggers, *darts, *single weapon. I figure since they already have a bonus with darts, better to spend the specialization on daggers.

The Katana and other proficiencies will be after that as I work on making Crokus more melee capable for BG2 protion.
