Remember also that Charname and co. don't know that Irenicus is still at large and still a big bad after he gets taken into custody.

Sure, if you have a wisdom of < 6 maybe...I mean someone with THAT power willfully surrendering and taking one of his "experiments" with him? If you don't smell the tuna on that one you should probably get your nose checked.

As for Minsc, he's really easy to dismiss. I hang out with the dude all day and I can tell you quite simply; the man is insane. I follow him around for great justice but I can understand why someone may not want to hang with him. Even a good character could be taken aback by his er, shall we say enthusiasm?

Back to Jaheira - Just RP in a death somewhere. Honestly that's the only way I can think of something that would make any sense. Either that or play her up to the point where you have the funds to go to spellhold but CHARNAME is more focused on using funds to equip a squad, whereas Jaheira doesn't want to wait. Through that argument she breaks from the group to pursue her own methods of getting to Spellhold, only to be killed by an assassin some days later.

In my game Imoen never even met either of them and CHARNAME killed Minsc in self defense. So justifying dumping them isn't so much an issue as trying to ignore the glaring continuity break.

Its a world where Resurrection is a common place event (the game, not necessarily the book series). Someone finds Minsc's corpse and decides that paying the money to bring him back might help solve 'The Murder' and hey presto. Of course he took one too many knocks to the head and thought you were Irenicus at the point where you killed him (or worse that you were controlled by same).

And who is to say that Imoen didn't meet them at some point outside of the gameplay timeline?

I am pretty good at self justifying glaring inconsistencies in books and movies and video games.

I always felt the same way as OP when seeing Minsc and Jaheira trapped in cages. But when playing a character that never grouped with them in BG1, they may as well have been captured Shadow Thieves. If you know they are there, but that you haven't grouped with them, it isn't heartless to leave them because as the DM for your own game you know that they ought not to be there. As far as Imoen saying other friends are trapped, you easily run into a certain corpse that makes you wonder what happened to its spouse, and you have even more motive to track down Irenicus for justice.

"Why are YOU down here with me, you henpecking Harper Druid (censored)?!? It's a wonder your husband didn't kill you in your sleep! C'mon Minsc, Imoen, let's get out of here!"

*Imoen quite happyily follows CHARNAME. Minsc looks vaguely conflicted for a few moments, then shrugs, following along. The hateful Harper hag screams and pounds ineffectually against the bars, to no avail.*

Basically, 99% of the characters I've ever played in BG despise Jaheira as much as I do, and the remaning 1% don't much care, and have no problem dropping her at the Athkatla Harper base.

If you leave Jaheira in her cage in SoA then summon her in ToB, she'll attack you. :3

    No worries on that score.

I think both Minsc and Jaheira are really annoying, to be honest. I usually march them into a house, up a flight of stairs, then boot them so I don't have to deal with the heartbreak of kicking them out :)

Sorry, I clicked the 'agree' by accident. :/

You could find billions of RP reasons not to take some NPC or to dump there somewhere.

What is really more annoying is that Minsc and Jaheira shouldn't be there in the first place... if they weren't with you in BG.

It's one of the only flaws of the game i really don't understand.
Why ? i really don't get the point. I mean, if you had Viconia or Edwin in your group in BG1, they could be there instead of them. Choosing only Jaheira and Minsc makes no sense at all and breaks the continuity between the two games for most Charnames.

Devs could have replaced Jaheira and Minsc by generic, non essential NPC that would have disappear at the end of Irenicus Dungeon. Then, they could have placed Jaheira and Minsc somewhere in Athkatla (like the other old NPC you can recruit like Vic or Edwin). And voila !

Really i can't see any reason to force our hand in the game's beginning. Everything is so perfect after Irenicus Dungeon...

I wish Beamdog could change this (but i think they can't because of their contract) or some modders (but i guess this is hardcoded and nearly impossible to change).

If someone has a good, RP reason to justify how Jaheira and Imoen could be in Irenicus Dungeon if you never took them in your group in BG1 (and maybe actually never spoke to Minsc), please tell me.

Maybe some guards assigned to you by the duke who were with you when you were captured, or some other shadow thieves... yes, that could work.

Imoen, we know why Irenicus wants her for his experiments as well. He needs two, for him and Bodhi.

Yeah, Imoen is not a problem, since whatever happened to her in BG1, Irenicus needs her.
