Portrait A looks to be holding a scimitar.

Portrait B is investigating a katana.

    I want to say that A is, indeed, a scimitar. That, or a basket-hilted sword of some sort. Broad sword? There might be some perspective play on the blade.
    B definitely looks like a katana being unsheathed...

    A is a scimitar. B could be a katana, wakizashi or possibly even a tachi (older, 2 handed, more curved Katana).
