Should I wait 2 months for EE or use modded version?

I just finished BG1, using the console to give myself a bottomless bag of holding was what made the difference between this playthrough attempt and my 3 previous stalled attempts. (inventory management was still a PITA but it wasn't so bad that I got sick of playing before even finishing nashkel mines)

Anyways, now that I had finished BG1 I really want to (immediately!) play BG2. But BG2EE is not going to out for 2 months yet :(

Should I wait, or go ahead and have my first playthrough using non EE BG2 (with mods of course).

Well you've already "waited" almost 15 years, might as well wait couple more months.

You should play it now. BG2 is amazing, but it's also somewhat different from BG1 and takes some getting used to. The sooner you start, the better! Also, there's amazing mods out there for BG2 and many are likely to face some problems with the EE initially - which would mean even more waiting!

Of course, I assume that your question is not exclusionary; if you mean a choice between BG2 now and *no* BG2:EE later, then obviously wait. But I see no reason not to play BG2 for two months, and then go straight onto the EE when it comes out. I mean, the old BG2 costs what, two dollars now?

Depends - if the BG1 you used was not the EE, go right ahead with BG2. If it was the EE, you might want to hold off for continuity's sake (ie: if you started Rasaad's storyline in BG:EE, you'll want to see how that works out...)

After BG:EE you should probably consider the chances of it being only two months.

2 months is a long period. If you can, you should play BG2 without any waiting. It will worth any minute;) And as soon as BG2:EE is out, you should play it to see the changes, to try new characters and parties and of course to use Dorn and Hexxat as well as Neera and Rasaad, explore new locations and get new quests. It will worth any minute too.

And you will see the difference yourself.

It's never enough to play Baldur's Gate and you can try some things in BG2 and some other things (for i.e., another character class, another party members, another side during the main quest and so on) in BG2:EE.

And while you wait Start up some new characters in BG:EE - it's always good to have 3-4 chars ready to import into BG2:EE , the classes you fancy, etc.

I am playing bg2 with some mods. I am trying to convince myself that it's only to see the difference between them in two months so I am really an analysist and not someone crazy who has gone all in on my favorite game of all times again.

I'd just wait. Honestly the way BG2EE is shaping up it looks to vastly improve the game.

Wait for it. Note that the more you wait, the more you want to play BG2. And, that means probably that you will have stronger experience with BG2:EE.

There should be an option for both. Play now AND when BG2:EE comes out. My current play through of BG2 (about half way through TOB) has left me with a better understanding of what proficiencies I should take in my next play through. It has also given me some good ideas about how to make the experience different next time around. Play both.

My vote: Either BGII:EE or BGII Vanilla. Screw TuTu and BGT.

I haven't play BG2, I will wait for steam, mainly for money reasons. If you haven't play it I suggest you pre-order if you can. The game looks really nice with all that new stuff and new interface. Also, not loading.

Tutu changes only the BG1 part, so if he finished there is no point of using it.

I would go for vanilla BG2, the differences won't be that big, especially if you are not keen on any of the new NPCs.

Playing BG1 in Tutu gives you access to kits. If you do that, it means that your continuation character will have been that kit. It therefore does impact the game play.

.... I seriously can't believe I'm reading a thread such as this one.

You do whatever you want to do.

I don't know what I want to do.

PS. how do I view a poll's results without voting in it?

I would certainly recommend to do a vanilla BG2 playthrough first to experience the original game. Thereafter you can play BG2EE which will offer new content. The game has plenty of replay value so don't worry about it.

I have GOG BG2, I will get BG2EE. For me it's not an either/or proposition.

You can't. However, the current polling results (as of 11:56pm) are

    Wait for BG2EE

If you have a lot of time on your hands...try both since the current mods for the old BG 2 may not be compatible with the EE edition. Of course, the EE edition apparently is improving stuff that mods alone cannot (from what I've been seeing on the forums).

I personally don't think you can go wrong either way.

Have you played bg2 before? If you have never played bg2 before, play it now. And when bg2:ee comes out, play it too.

I have played bgt with a gazillion of mods many times, and it has been a blast. Now I have fun with BG:EE on Ipad (with mods!) and can't really bring myself to return to pc BG2. (graphics, loading times, have to play on laptop instead of comfy Ipad, etc.) BG:EE can keep me entertained till BG2:EE comes out on Ipad. :-)

Wait for it Dude, start your BG:EE games, and let a couple of final saves to start your adventures in BG2:EE, it will be much more fun this way.
  • taltamirtaltamir Member Posts: 288
    @Lunar: I have not played BG2 before
I started playing BG2 with mods after all. I think I will replay it with a different type of party when EE comes out

    1. Don't wait.
    2. Play now.
    3. Nearly complete the game.
    4. BG2:EE gets released
    5. Start a new game of BG2:EE
    6. Get to play BG2 twice
    7. ???
    8. Profit!

    @taltamir

I'm glad you've decided not to wait. You won't regret. You'll get acquainted with this great game, with classes, NPCs, magic and story twists.

And you won't regret trying BG2:EE later with its new NPCs, kits, locations, items, quests, dialogs, graphics, UI, list goes on and on. It will give a different experience.

In the end, you'll join our Chronic Restarting Detox Camp ;-)
