Have you beaten all the Infinity Engine games?

Due to the recent shocking revelation that our favorite IE modder @CamDawg hasn't beaten either IWD2, nor PS:T, I wanted to know how common that is amongst the BG fans!

To boost my own nerd status I can say I've beaten, and really enjoy, all of them. They got very nice balance going from story heavy PS:T to the combat heavy IWD games. Even still got the original discs somewhere, probably.

For the purposes of this poll the IE games are IWD1+2, PS:T and BG1+2.

I suspect that 'some' is going to dominate. There's a broad enough diversity in them that every game probably has some aspect that turns off a player.

And yeah, for me, it's IWD2 and PST. 3e rules for the former, and just not enough engagement in the latter.

Credit to him, it's a hard confession to make. At times I feel the (full range of) IE games are a bit like the popular Woodstock festival rumour: several million people claim to have been there nowadays, but only 400,000 actually were.

Most of them. I haven't beat Konung or Konung 2, both of which I've never even heard of prior to this. I've beaten all of them except the Konung games.

I've beaten PS:T and the BG games. I've given up on ToEE until they fix at least some of the bugs (Overhaul, you hear me?) and the IWD series is still a "someday when I find the time" project.

I don't think ToEE uses the Infinity Engine. The graphics interface just looks similar.

I haven't heard of them until your post either. Well adding clarification to the OP what I think most people mean by IE games.

A list of all IE games from Wikipedia:

    Baldur's Gate (1998)
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast (1999)
    Planescape: Torment (1999)
    Icewind Dale (2000)
Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter (2001)
Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter: Trials of the Luremaster (2001)
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000)
Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal (2001)
Konung: Legends of the North[citation needed] (2000)
    Icewind Dale II (2002)
    Konung 2: Blood of Titans[citation needed] (2004)
    Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition (2012)
Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition (TBA)

Though, the Konung games do say "citation needed", so it's possible that it's not accurate.

I've beaten both BG games and both IWD games, numerous times. I never got seriously into PS:T (although certainly if Overhaul produce PS:Tee, and perhaps even if they don't, then I'll go back to it and have a proper go at it). I've never heard of any other Infinity Engine games. ("Konung"? What's that?)

You should definitely try Konung, its a really great game.
I've finished BG:EE, BG2 (without ToB) and IWD.

Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale. Never beat Icewind Dale II due to lack of motivation, and I never really own a Planescape: Torment, so I never really had an occasion to beat it. Maybe some day.

    Never heard of Konung =/

Started Planescape torment and LOVED it. But for various reasons I never finished and it got kind of lost in transition....

The BG games has been a staple since 99 and are played atleast once/year.
IWD series probably about 5 times each.

All of them, and dozens of times, except IWD2 which I intensively disliked and only ran through twice.

Pretty much this. I've only got through the beginning of the prologue fight in IWD2 once.

PST, IWD and BG1 and BG2 beaten at least a few times.

I've beaten BG1 three or four times (once with TotSC) and BG2+ToB only once. Didn't really like Torment or IWD2 and haven't tried IWD1.

Haven't played PST and IWD2 to completion.

I've never heard of Konung and didn't factor it into my answer. Beaten everything else, loved them all.

For a while, IWD2 was my favorite. It always surprises me to hear people talk about how much worse it is. The set pieces are fantastic, the prologue is the best out of all of the games, and I love playing with the 3e rules as a break from the 2e of the other games. You can build crazy characters, like my personal favorite rogue1/paladin2/ranger1/MageX Drow elf.

Really, the only problem I had with it was that the final battle was really underwhelming. Otherwise, it shares all of the strengths and weaknesses of IWD1, minus the presence of expansions.

I've beaten BG saga, IWD w/ hotw and totl. Haven't beaten iwd2 or ps:t. Got close to the end of iwd2 but i just stopped for some reason. Never got far enough in ps:t to have a specific class (all I know is I want me that mechanus cannon=p) have to get around to them someday. Currently playing IWD again but with the npc mod for my first time

I dont really beat my games, I am that nice. Yet I played thru all but the Torment one (its theme is not for me), and IWD2 (Oh the level design...aw.ngdlnss)

I did promise myself to somehow manage thru IWD2 tho, since I generally like the game, and the more systemy system :)

A full proper run of BG maybe three or four times, with lots of starts. IWD 1 & 2 a couple of times each. BG2 started hundreds of times, completed about twenty times, with half a dozen bothering to go right through ToB. PS:T started once, for about five minutes.
  • gunmangunman Member Posts: 215
I've beaten all of them, meaning BG 1+2, IWD 1+2 and PS:T.
  • TetraploidTetraploid Member Posts: 252
Finished IWD (including HoW/TotL), IWD2, BG (including TotSC), BG2 but not TOB (got up to the end, never finished the final battle. Pathetic, I know). Never played PS:T (Despite the general consenseus being that I really should!)

I've probably played BG through to the end the most times, but spent the most hours on IWD2.

PST with a widescreen mod is a good game. If you can put up with numerous text menus you are good.

Havent tried PS:T and Konung (what is that :O), but I have completed BG1/2/TOB and IWD1/2.
  • triclops41triclops41 Member Posts: 207
All but ToEE, PST and IWD2. ToEE had no pseudo real time option, and that just wasn't fun for me. PST was so old by the time I started, the interface and graphics were too frustrating and I couldn't last very long, much to my disappointment, considering how much I loved the other IE games and how many said PST was their favorite of the IE games. IWD2 suffered from bad timing. I played it almost immediately after playing IWD all the way through, and not long after I played BG2 and ToB. By then, I was burned out and IWD 2 was not special enough to stay with. Not much after that, NWN 2 was close to release, and that was the nail in the coffin.

It doesn't mean that game is bad. I never read reviews, especially from big gaming sites.

Funny thing I had the same impression when I first tried to play it many years ago, giving up fairly early in the game. After years I gave it another try and took my time to role play the character through dialogue. Definitely not a game to enjoy if you want a fast paced action, it's like reading and interactive book. And after finishing the game I have to say this is the best written game ever made, and possibly that will ever be made.
