I don't know...in any PnP game I ever played, the gold collection was automatic whenever you searched a body. The DM said "You find X amount of gold", and it was just assumed that it was added to your inventory.
The only time that this auto-collection might be overridden was when the party thief decided not to share with the rest of the group.
I just get annoyed picking up one gold at a time. Later in the game I often don't bother. I'd like to keep the sound effect and give you a cue, but when you open a body, it auto takes the gold. -Trent
It's very satisfying manually picking up gold. I would prefer the current mechanic stays as is. Or Trent you might consider implementing this into an 'advanced options' menu if people found it to their preference...(ehem)
As a middle-ground, maybe the "Looting" interface could display the gold separately, so that you can find it more easily without having to look through the list. The click is still there, but no longer a matter of hunting and pecking.
I agree, auto pickup gold isnt good. Later in the game when one is rich, it isn't worth it to loot common corpses, like you really need that 10gp and a bloody suit of used studded leather armor? . Of course at the beginning of the game it makes more sense to hoard stuff to hawk at the town store.... But there is the role playing element. Would a chaotic good character loot the body do a good aligned civilian? I know I wouldn't.
Our rough plan right now is that auto-looting gold will be optional, it will play the gold pickup SFX, and the log will say something along the lines of "Picked up 53,856 gold. Contacting IRS."

Maybe press and hold RMB on a piece of loot and after a second a menu pops up, you click on 'auto-loot' and thereafter item of that type is auto-looted, until you toggle it off again. Coins or bandit scalps or full plates, it's up to you.
And personally I can't make my mind up if this offends my gamer-sensibilities or not (like, you're forcing the hand of my pc). So i'm all for keeping it optional and letting the player (me) decide on the day of release.

Auto-pickup gold: [ ] ON [ ] OFF
In any event I'm glad to see you have your plans in place and that there'll be consistency across the board.
Well that settles one argument!
Also I'll stop derailing this thread now.
