Seeing how the BG series is already biased towards good parties, I don't think it's a bad thing to give evil parties some benefits...

i don't see why imoen should be a more powerful spellcaster than elminster. Personally i'd like to see *more* hard-caps on npc's power.

Making Edwin a real red wizard and giving him another prohibited school, evocation,(and even a third necro/alterr) would be interesting and awesome roleplaywise, but it would limit the use of the character so much that he would lose much of his appeal as a companion. No fireball, cloudkill or meteor swarm( or stoneskin). He would possibly just be summoning monsters the whole game.

IF you are going to nerf him into a nobody, you better give him something interesting to do.

    Stoneskin is alteration.

And...uh...yeah...he's a conjurer...that kind of means he's SUPPOSED to be focused on summoning stuff. Otherwise he would've been an Invoker or necromancer or some other offensively oriented specialist.

(Of note, most of the spells you mentioned should never be memorized as they can be easily gained via other sources).

And 2 extra spells per day more then other companions (or one more over other specialists).

And people always point out, losing Divination ISN'T a penalty because of the entire school being worthless in BG, aside from True-sight which can be gained from a ton of other sources and only idiot would memorize true-sight over improved haste or Wyvern's Call anyway, so he currently has no penalty and a ton of bonuses on top.

He'd still be the best non-PC mage in the game even if he lost Divination, Evocation, and Necromancy.
