I actually liked her being able to die. She just needs an updated AI while not in the party, so she doesn't storm in to melee (and get clobbered).

A 4hp / AC6 Wizard that you don't control and goes meleeing with his staff after casting a single spell should absolutely not be able to die.

Of course she should be able to die. She's mortal. She just needs improved AI so that she actually utilizes her spells, and doesn't run into melee.

She's a level 1 Wizard. She can cast 1 spell. And she uses a staff.
It's way easier to make her invulnerable (Or just have become inconscious for the fight if she gets hit...) rather than having to reload because you just arrived in the village with a level 1 CHARNAME / level 1 Imoen and you didn't manage to kill the three guys that are after her in time.

Having Neera able to die is just bad design.

Edit.: Honestly - I don't care all that much, it's just that easy to cheese the AI anyway, but anyone that's new to the game will have a hard time saving her.

Maybe you shouldn't be able to save her if you arrive there with only two level 1 characters.

I don't agree with this, in fact I think it's very good design.

There are plenty of encounters in the starting areas of BG1 where a low level, understaffed party stands very little chance of succeeding. I'd have no problem with toning this one down a notch or two, or see some nuance added (better AI for neera, unconscious state for neera when defeated, or being able to take her corpse to a temple to get her ressed, to name a few solutions that come to mind). Immortality for Neera is the least favorable solution in my mind.
Letting her be dumb as shnitz and capable of beeing killed in one hit from the three guys that are right in her face when the fight starts is - I'm sorry - way more bad design than having her be invulnerable in a glorified cutscene where you're supposed to save her.

It's pretty much the same as the first encounter with Dorn.
They are not supposed to ie anyway, they've got PLOT ARMOR.

I mean, if that fight had interesting mechanics, or even wasn't one-sided it could be interesting having to save her, but I mean, she's got 4hp and AC7. A single hit and she's dead. This is not interesting, it's just plain dumb old luck or previous knowledge of the encounter.

It's clear something needs to be done, but as I've previously stated I think giving her immortality is the least favorable solution. That said it might be the only available fix, in which case, so be it.

    My 2 cents..

All the kiddies want the "i can never fail" solution...

Leave it the same, being a hero ain't always a walk in the park.

    Cheers!

The problem isn't that "she can die"; the problem is that "she dies really quickly".

We're working on a solution for that problem; the issue is really the attack priority of the people attacking you.

That sounds reasonable. The wizards aren't out to kill Neera, just to capture her, and the party (depending on dialogue choices) is getting in the way.

Neera is too hard to keep alive in her first encounter

    1) Start a new game.
    2) C: MoveToArea("AR3300")
    3) Walk toward Neera (x=2486, y=673)
    4) Follow the dialogue, and when the battle begins, observe how quickly and easily Neera is killed.

Neera should not be so easily killed by the red wizards.
