Tried making a new character two times now but the game crashes when I'm finished?
If this is relevant this is my character:

Gender:
Male

Race:
Elf

Class:
Dragon Disciple

Alignment:
Lawful Neutral

Abilities:
Str. 18
Con. 15
Dex. 19
Int. 18
Wis. 3
Cha. 18

Skills:
Dagger *

Spells:
Magic Missile
Chromatic Orb

Apperance:
No change

Voice:
Male1

Name:
Vel'Druin

Crash files for the two crashes will be included with a screenshot of the crash message and my system data.

If there is anything more I need to add just ask!

Edit: Can't upload dmp files :s?

is this a new install or an updated one / modded one, and did you try some other character / race / class / simple name without ' in it (just for testing)?

An all new install and it's not modded in any way and yes I tried other race/class etc combinations and yes I tried with another name :c

Did not have this issue on the steam version of the game

This crash has nothing to do with the character type, looks like you wouldn't be able to start any new game.

Do you have any files in the game's override directory?

@Aron740 Please just zip your dmp file and upload. Also contact support@beamdog.net or send a PM to @Dee.

Where is it located? Can't seem to find it

Well, if there is any, it should be directly in 766. But if you don't have any, it is good.

Make one override, and drop this file (unzipped) into it. It is the same as you should have in the game (but not in the override). If it works this way, we should be sure one of your files are buggy and i could tell you more. If this doesn't fix it, i don't know what happens there.

deleted attachment. The proper solution was given by Dee.

Okay, I made an "override" folder inside the "00766" folder and unzipped the file inside and sadly the same crash occurs, do you want another crash report?

    Question:
Could I get some save file so I could test loading it? See if that works?

    Edit:
Can't load any of the pre-made characters either.

Tried multiplayer and I got into the game for a fourth of a second? Then the same crash message occurs...

If you could send me your DxDiag file, that'll help me see if it's something to do with hardware or something else. To generate the file:

    1. Press and hold the Windows key and the letter R on your keyboard
    2. You will see a Run box in the lower-left corner of your screen
    3. Type dxdiag in the text field
    4. Click OK
    5. If your computer has a 64-bit version of Windows, click the button Run 64-bit DXDIAG
    6. If your computer has a 32-bit version of Windows, that button will not be available
    7. Click the Save All Information button, found on the bottom of the DXDIAG report

Then attach the file to an email and send it to dpennyway@beamdog.com

Come now, you don't expect me to read everything that's relevant to the problem, do you?...

    ...ahem. Yes. ...

    EDIT: Okay. So.

Open up Documents\Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Portraits.

Look for a file called BGEE.sql.

If you find it, delete it.

If that doesn't sort it, let me know.

Wow that was quick! Will try it right now

IT WORKS!!! Thank you so much! How you could find the problem so fast is well beyond me but thanks :D

    The UI is soooo pretty...

The issue is related to the Super Ultimate Portrait Pack, which includes a copy of BGEE.sql.

Since that file is changed in the new version of the game, that file causes problems like whoa.

Incidentally, with the new Custom Portraits interface, you shouldn't need to fiddle with sql files. It's a lot easier to navigate portraits than it was before.

I hope no one takes this personally, but this is why I don't use mods that anyone else creates. Too many variables that could cause unforeseen problems.
  • Aron740Aron740 Member Posts: 153
Well then I guess this was partly my fault, never thought a portrait pack would include anything other than the portraits themselves. Also thought that all traces of mods would disappear when I uninstalled the game.

Still I thank you deeply for your time! Was so frustrated that I could not get my -> bg2ee playthrough started :/
