Hmm... I want to try a hammer throwing fighter/cleric now. Hammers and axes get strength bonuses, right? And daggers do not, but have more attacks by default?
But you must EEkeeper him a blonde human and call him Thor
Heck yeah! I'm thinking of modding Spiritual Hammer to be throwable so I can summon it up. Maybe add a point of lightning damage too.
I'm doing this for a Kensai / Mage. I would do an Archer / Mage, but Ranger / Mage isn't a valid dual class
...
If I was doing pure Kensai, I would actually choose Dwarf for the constitution and flexibility to enter melee when needed. Otherwise, you just have a faster-leveling Archer that uses really expensive (and heavy) ammo.
You do know that only humans can dual class?
Yeah, I probably shouldn't have wandered off topic like that. My recommendations still stand, however. (Pure-class Kensai I would choose Dwarf and reconsider gimping CON.) I assumed the OP would be trying to get this Kensai through TotSC, not starting out in BG2. I think a ranged-only Kensai would be difficult in the first game: There are no returning axes (except one in Candlekeep Catacombs) or daggers, and throwing axes weigh 5 lbs each. Even though I was planning on dual-classing MY Kensai, it wouldn't happen until at least level 8, so I still need to make it through BG1 with a pure Kensai (and a plain-old human one, at that).
If the throwing-Kensai is going to start in BG2, then I would choose the elf with gimped CON. Start with axes, and by the time you have access to the Firetooth you'll also have High Grandmastery in daggers, at which point I would switch to that. If elves also get bonuses with daggers, that's just one more reason to use them. The higher levels and better equipment allow for other specialists to be more... er... specialized... to pick up slack where the Kensai can't. In BG1, it's a slightly less viable option.

Yea, I'm starting out in BG1. I got around the weight thing by cheating and giving myself the bag of holding. So far it's working out pretty well. With 18/97 str and 19 dex, he started out with 14 thac0 and 9-14 damage at level one. He could kill most low level enemies before they even got close.

I hadn't thought of that. I guess I need to EEKeeper my Kensai to put those specialization points into dual-wielding for melee...
