New secret ring?

Is the ring of protection +1 in Area 2800 (where you meet Elminster for the first time?), X = 1004, y = 1111 new, or did I just never read about it?

You just never read about it. That ring was there in vanilla version.

Ring of protection was there before BGEE.

PS: there is another ring hidden at the base of a tree outside the Friendly Arm inn. (joke)

My favourite recent discovery was finding out that if you continue to blackmail the woman in the Three Kegs in BG she hires a merc to take you out. Of course, he's not too bright, and doesn't last very long.

I recently found out about the gem you can pilfer from the tavern in Candlekeep and how much it is actually worth. I guess I did know it was there, but I had never had a lock pick high enough at 1st level. WOW, that was quite a boost. Although, what do you really need that much money for early on anyway?

    Buying Winthrop's prized Katana.

Giving donations to the Temple of Oghma so that they may benefit from your recently acquired wealth.

That or getting half the money you need for buying a Wand of Sleep (to use one example).

Katanas are great, but for a halfling thief?

I only recently discovered the wand of frost in the top left corner of the Nashkel Mines when I was watching the world record speed run of Baldur's Gate :P

I technically *know* that it is there, but I *always* forget about it when actually playing.

Next people will be saying they never found the diamond hidden in the tree on the Ambush map...

Always finding new things is great. It was only in BG:EE that I found there's actually a quest to steal the Golden Pantaloons. Good luck with that, questgiver. They belong to me now.

@Corvino: What diamond? I never found it. Never bothered to look, is probably more accurate.

Its right next to the path either just before or just after Monty and Xzar, in a tree. i didm;t know it was there until I was beta testing the patch and it was on the checklist. XD

I like little things like this and I wish there was more of them in the game. Or maybe there is and I haven't found them yet.

I do know that there is some high level scrolls, like Cloudkill, hidden in the grass in the mountains where you meet Albert (??) the boy/demon who lost his dog. Also there is some interesting loot on the Cambion if you manage to kill him at the top of Durlag's Tower, and the ghosts in the Firewine Ruins drop some epic loot if you can figure out how to kill them.

Some areas though felt like missed oppertunities. Like Gullykin, it would have been cool if there was some interesting halfling related items hidden somewhere, like a short sword or a sling. That area in particular felt kind of lackluster. It could be removed from the game and I dont think I would miss much.

@lundgrnn - The Demon Knight in Durlag's Tower is now properly invincible when you first encounter him. On the other hand, the item of previously unobtainable loot that he only drops if you abuse chesse and kill him then is now dropped during his main confrontation.

@Phyrax - As Eudaemonium says, it's hidden in a tree by the path just North of Xzar and Monty. And combined with the +1 ring of protection it's a nice boost to your early-game cash and gear.
