I think we need a new selection at character creation

I realize that we are a progressive society now and we are tolerant of all lifestyles. However, In my world, I did not expect Dorn to tell me that he is attracted to me after we had a sparing match. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I turned him down ending the romance option I hope. Look, I played BG:EE and there was no indication that Dorn was attracted to men...I was pretty sure that he was attracted to/slept with the necromancy chick. I don't care one way or the other if he is gay...only that he is there to cover my back. I believe the romance options should coincide with each persons individual beliefs. At this point I believe beamdog needs to add a hetero/homo selection at character creation to tailor the game to each individual player.

I do not agree. I believe having characters with different sexualities creates a more immersive experience. The ability to toggle sexuality would undermine character's identities, imo. Much like in real life, we all get hit on by people we may not be attracted to.
While I do not believe this is your intent, I believe including a sexuality toggle sends a message of, if not intolerance, then at least un-inclusiveness. Again, just my opinion. Consider the inverse proposition: would you have suggested such a toggle if all the characters were heterosexual?
As a final note, the word "homo" is generally regarded as a slur. Contextually, it is clear that is not your intent, but one should generally refrain from using that word.
Ah, Manhattan.
Here's what I don't understand:
The option to romance Dorn comes up. You're not interested, you tell him you're not interested, the game accepts this and shuts down Dorn as a romance storyilne.
Your "problem" has already been dealt with, in-game, in-character. Why do you need a sexuality toggle at character creation? You've already made the relevant choice.
I mean, would you be okay with it if someone said they wanted a race toggle because their "individual beliefs" made them uncomfortable with black characters like Dynaheir or Valygar? Or an evil toggle because they want Faerun to be a world where only good characters exist?
In RPGs you take characters as they are, and you navigate the choices offered to you according to what you want. You did the right thing for your character with Dorn - no need to spike the ball.
I would choose the mummie template.
NWN allowed you to choose a diety so why not ale @kidcarnival ? It could save time at the ale selection screen if the barman just offered you your usual.
And while I'm ranting why cant we choose if we want hair or not? We need flesh tone hair colour so the hair disappears... it will make the less hirsute of us less jealous of our CHARNAME...
