#7152 [CORE] -Throwing daggers not adding strength

Just what it says on the tin. Throwing daggers aren't adding the wielder's strength bonus to damage, although the new manual (and BG1EE precedent) says they should. I run a modded game, but I used NI to check an unmodded install and found that throwing daggers still have the "use strength" box unchecked. I checked normal throwing daggers, poisoned throwing daggers, the boomdagger, and fire tooth (the dagger, not the crossbow), and none of them were adding strength.

Obviously, if the manual is wrong and throwing daggers are working as intended, please correct me. And also probably correct the manual.

    Is it a bug or an intended behaviour? I've been playing a patched version at the weekend and can confirm Hexxat with 20 STR and 20 DEX gets only THACO bonuses from DEX. I think she should get STR bonuses to damage with throwing daggers.

    Probably just an oversight. Darts add the strength bonus so we need only edit dagg05.itm to add the strength bonus to the damage.

    Actually, I'm pretty sure that darts are the only throwing weapon *not* intended to get a strength bonus, but I could be wrong. I'd like to know more about this too, because I'm planning a character with a heavy focus on throwing weapons and will wait for a patch if the strength bonuses aren't yet implemented.

    It may also be that I already fixed darts and simply forgot about it. Some fixes I have are ones I made months or years ago and have just brought them forward into the EE age.

    According to the new manual, throwing daggers, throwing axes, and sling are supposed to add strength, and darts are not. Currently, all of the above seem to be working as intended except throwing daggers. However, as Mathsorcerer points out, this is pretty easy to self-correct. There are only like 5 types of throwing daggers in the game, so going through and checking the "add strength" box on all of them isn't hard.

    Throwing daggers will be fixed. Has been reported as issue 7152.

    The problem is that, apparently, with the new BG1EEv1.2+/BG2 'engine'..when you check the box 'add strength' (for ranged weapons), you automatically add the +STR bonus (added to the +DEX vonus) to the Thac0.. the trick pre BG1EEv1.2 (for any ranged types), simply checking the boxes 'add strength' and 'sling' (type), to just add the STR bonus to the damages..doesn't seem to work anymore... that's either +STR to thac0 (added to DEX thaco bonus) and damages (box strength checked), or only DEX bonus on thac0 (no box strength checked); that last one is the one for the current daggers behaviour so.. Will be curious to see the new fix too..will be interesting (aka how to do that now).

    @Bercon: Anything still listed at the following link are still in the game. Given the release of Android, we have not gotten a BG2 patch in a while, meaning most of the reported issues (and everything in that thread) are still problems.

    You can add the STRENGTH damage bonus without adding the THAC0 bonus on Daggers, the same way you can fix Sling of Seeking (Since other Slings don't add THAC0 bonus from STRENGTH): Uncheck the "Add Strength Bonus" and check "Unknown 2" instead in Near Infinity.

    That way, the item get STRENGTH Damage bonus, but STRENGTH THAC0 Bonus WILL NOT BE ADDED. However, DEXTERITY THAC0 Bonus WILL be added.

    Item concerned:
    DAGG05 : Throwing Dagger
    DAGG11 : Boomerang Dagger +2
    DAGG12 : Firetooth +3
    DAGG16 : Poisoned Throwing Dagger

    I also edited
    SLNG07 : Sling of Seeking +1, since it received the STR THAC0 bonus in addition to DEX bonus

    Would be nice if I could find a way as easy to fix the 0.5 attack added with Haste instead of 1 whole attack per round when a character has 3/2, 5/2, 7/2 Attack per round score (1.5, 2.5, 3.5) .... =(

    containing all throwing weapons with STR THACO bonus removed and / or damage bonus added (depending when applicable) to be unzipped in your override folder
