Hmm. How about potions of detonation and oil of fiery burning? They're instacast fireballs far all your non-archer characters, and don't need to see an enemy to be fired.
I remember abusing this trick extensively after having trouble beating the mercenary party after you finish the Nashkel Mines... Run up to where you know they are and let a barrage of potions off before they ever see you. Makes for a lot of toasty bodies quickly
Varscona, the black +2 longsword you get from Greywolf. It always felt like such an epic weapon, the picture with the golden handle, black blade and red gem did a lot to endear me to that weapon.
The World's Edge, +2 Greatsword, because is was the baddest thing around in BG1 and my dwarf used greatswords.
Ring of Wizardry, mostly in BGtutu when I gave it to Xan the Sorcerer, giving him 14 lvl1 spells per day. Thank you sir!
Definitely the Gauntlets of Crushing. No monk should pass them up.
What's even better is, to acquire them, you need to condemn a whole civilization of man-eating shark things to a slow death brought from inbreeding. While they saved you from drowning and saw you as their messiah. Probably one of the few times in the game where being "evil" is worth it.

Slow death? I used to go back and kill them all, more xp for me, no shark people for the world..
BG1: Greywolf's Longsword, ring of wizardry and the gauntlets of dex BG2: Easy. Daystar. Fulfilled all of my Undead hunting fantasies There may be more powerful anti undead spells and weapons, but the first time I found Daystar was such an epic moment. Plus, WHERE you find it really fits with the lore of the weapon and why it is being guarded.
Blade of Roses (SoA) - it just seemed like such a cool, stylish weapon
Circlet of Netheril (ToB) - although there is no animation for it, you just know your mage is kickass when they own the Circlet of Netheril, don't you?
Shadow Dragon Armour (SoA) - i always felt there was a serious neglect of light and medium armour, as most NPCs used full plate or nothing at all. Shadow Dragon Armour was both powerful /and/ stylish. as it should be :P
BG1: (Not Counting Drizzt's Gear or stat boosting gloves and belts)
Boots of Speed (Best item hands down) Ankeg Armor Klaw of Kazaroth Staff +3 (Which you can buy!) Staff of Striking Greenstone Amulet Robes of Various Archmagi Helm of Balduran Ashadeen (Hammer) +2, +1 Electrical Damage Spiders Band +2 (Great Sword w/ Free Action) Viscona (Long Sword) +2, + 1 Cold Damage Stupifier +1 (Mace) Dagger of Venom +2 Heart of The Golem (Dagger +2) Full Plate Mail +1 Staff-Mace +2 Short Sword +3
The Black Pitts:
Improved Cloak of Protection +2 Belt of Inertial Barrier
BG2:
Flail of the Ages Staff of the Magi Staff of the Ram Carsomyr Gram The Sword Of Grief Crom Faeyr Ravager.... And so on when it comes to great weapons.
The Ring of Wizardy that doubles 1st level spells. From low levels to high, it's just incredibly useful. For low levels it really makes your arcane casters feel so much more useful and at high level you pretty much always have some missile or identify spells available when you need them.
The last swing of a battle is more important than the first. Such is the philosophy embodied in this powerful weapon. Although the strange design of The Answerer makes it difficult to take the initiative in combat, with each hit it makes an opponent more vulnerable to subsequent attacks. STATISTICS: Each hit lowers opponents' Magic Resistance by 15% Each hit applies a penalty of -2 to opponents' AC THACO: +4 bonus Damage: 1D8 +4 Damage type: slashing Weight: 2 Speed Factor: 9 Proficiency Type: Long Sword Type: 1-handed Requires: 6 Strength Not Usable By: Druid Cleric Mage ---------------------------------------
Flail of Ages for me. Available really early, great damage, elemental damage for all types of enemies, unsaveable slow on hit and gets more powerful as the game goes on.
